In two similar statements on December 16, two Singaporean ministers described Bloomberg's article as "defamatory" and said they would issue a formal request after consulting on legal procedures.
Singapore's Law and Home Affairs Minister K. Shanmugam and Manpower Minister Tan See Leng are preparing legal action against Bloomberg and several other media outlets for publishing information related to their property transactions, which they consider "defamatory".
In two similar statements posted on their personal Facebook pages on December 16, two Singaporean ministers called Bloomberg's article "defamatory" and said they would issue an official request after consulting on legal procedures.
The two ministers added that they “take these allegations very seriously”.
Bloomberg's December 12 article titled "Singapore's Villa Deals Are Increasingly Shrouded in Secrecy" mentioned Minister Tan See Leng's purchase of a Brizay Park villa worth S$27.3 million, while Minister K. Shanmugan sold a Queen Astrid Park villa for S$88 million, both in 2023.
The article is still posted on Bloomberg's website and has been reposted by many media outlets such as The Online Citizen and The Edge Singapore, The Independent, etc../.
