On October 2, information from the Central Hospital of Odonto-Stomatology in Ho Chi Minh City said that on the same morning, the hospital coordinated with Tu Du Hospital to successfully perform a cesarean section in a difficult case.
Accordingly, on September 30, Tu Du Hospital received a pregnant woman (43 years old, from Tra Vinh) with a history of untreated goiter for 20 years and degenerative cervical spondylitis.
Doctors and technicians from Tu Du Hospital in collaboration with the Central Hospital of Odonto-Stomatology in Ho Chi Minh City successfully performed a cesarean section in a difficult case.
Pregnant woman X. was initially diagnosed with: First child, head-down position, 39 weeks and 6 days old, oligohydramnios (lack of amniotic fluid), goiter, cervical spondylitis, narrow pelvis, etc. on the basis of an older pregnant woman.
The pregnant woman was scheduled for cesarean section (due to a narrow pelvis and being pregnant with her first child at an advanced age). However, during the preparation for surgery, the pregnant woman had serious difficulties with her respiratory condition, airway, stiff cervical spine, limited mouth opening, and could not undergo spinal anesthesia.
Doctors at Tu Du Hospital predicted that it would be impossible to intubate using conventional methods due to the pregnant woman's limited mouth opening and prolonged cervical spondylitis.
In this situation, to ensure the patient's safety, Tu Du Hospital coordinated with the Central Hospital of Odonto-Stomatology in Ho Chi Minh City to send doctors and nurses of the Central Hospital of Odonto-Stomatology in Ho Chi Minh City to perform endotracheal intubation through a flexible endoscope. According to the doctor, this is a complicated method that requires high experience in handling difficult cases. After the endotracheal intubation was successfully placed, the cesarean section went smoothly.
After surgery, the patient was extubated after recovery, ensuring good respiratory function and stable vital signs (pulse, blood pressure, breathing rate, body temperature). The newborn baby is healthy, both mother and baby are safe.
According to the doctor, this is one of the treatments that requires close and effective coordination between hospitals, ensuring patient safety and helping to achieve success in complex and difficult surgeries.
