Speaking to Tuoi Tre Online on the afternoon of August 14, Ms. Ha Thi Phuc - Director of Muong Lat District Medical Center - said that after many days of treatment for diphtheria at Thanh Hoa Provincial General Hospital, two patients (a 74-year-old man and a 10-year-old child), both residing in Doan Ket neighborhood, Muong Lat town, had just been discharged from the hospital.
According to health regulations, these two patients will limit contact with people around them for 7 days and continue to be monitored as outpatients for 60 to 70 days.
These two patients are relatives of patient PLM, 17 years old, 8 months pregnant, who contracted diphtheria on August 8 due to close contact with patient M.
Ms. Ha Thi Phuc added that after being discharged from the hospital and returning to her home in Doan Ket neighborhood on the night of August 12, Ms. PLM was monitored daily by staff from Muong Lat District Medical Center for the health of both mother and fetus.
Currently, Muong Lat District Medical Center is waiting for Thanh Hoa Department of Health to provide the district with 25,000 additional doses of tetanus-diphtheria vaccine to vaccinate at-risk and high-risk subjects in Muong Lat town and three neighboring communes: Quang Chieu, Tam Chung, and Pu Nhi.
Previously, on August 5, Thanh Hoa health sector recorded the first case of diphtheria in the province.
The patient is Ms. PLM, 17 years old, 8 months pregnant, residing in Doan Ket area, Muong Lat town. On August 8, two more relatives of Ms. M. contracted diphtheria and were promptly transferred to the hospital for treatment.
In the past few days, no new cases of diphtheria have been detected in the diphtheria outbreak in Muong Lat district.
Muong Lat District Medical Center has been focusing on isolating the diphtheria epidemic and giving people in Doan Ket neighborhood antibiotics to prevent diphtheria.
