Two special publications on the great victory of the resistance war against America to save the country

On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Great Victory of Spring 1975, the Truth National Political Publishing House introduces to readers two special publications: "On the Great Victory of Spring 1975 through documents of the Saigon government" and "General Headquarters in the Spring of Victory" by General Vo Nguyen Giap.

These are valuable documents with multi-dimensional perspectives on the great victory of the resistance war against the US to save the country, ending with the historic Ho Chi Minh Campaign.

The memoir "General Headquarters in the Spring of Victory" by General Vo Nguyen Giap (performed by Pham Chi Nhan) was drafted and prepared for many years.

The book recreates major historical events in the final years of our people's 30-year march to liberate the nation and defend the Fatherland under the glorious flag of the Party. It is also where the General confided and expressed his thoughts, enthusiasm, and summarized his glorious military life through the fierce but heroic years of the revolutionary war.

The great victory of Spring 1975 was a brilliant milestone, an epic in the history of the Vietnamese revolution, marking a brilliant new development step of the art of people's war in modern conditions.

That resounding victory was made up of many factors, in which the core and decisive factor was the Party's strategic talent, specifically the strategic policies and wise and sharp leadership decisions of General Commander-in-Chief Vo Nguyen Giap and the Supreme Command with the motto "lightning speed - boldness - surprise - sure victory."

Although writing about the historic Spring of 1975, the General still returned to events from December 1972 with the “Dien Bien Phu in the air” battle, then to the historic Paris Agreement in 1973...

The actual developments on the battlefield and at the negotiating table had changes and developments very quickly, the events were closely related to each other, from here the strategic intentions of the Politburo, the Central Military Commission, and the General Command were proposed, becoming strategic decisions of the entire Party, the entire army and the entire people.

Reading the memoir, we see the particularly important role of the Supreme Command and the strategic staff agencies of the General Headquarters throughout the fierce, long-term battle of wits and strength between us and the enemy.

There, readers clearly see the Vietnamese spirit and intelligence at decisive historical moments: sharp, creative, decisive, seizing opportunities and creating great opportunities, making great efforts to wipe out the enemy.

These fascinating and informative pages clearly depict the intelligence of a talented group of the first guard who shone brightly at a decisive historical moment leading our nation to glory.

The great victory of Spring 1975, culminating in the Ho Chi Minh Campaign to liberate Saigon, was a continuous development from Dong Khoi - a qualitative leap forward of the Vietnamese revolution, bankrupting the US strategies of "Unilateral War", "Special War" and "Local War", forcing the US to stop bombing the North and sit at the negotiating table at the Paris Conference.

On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the great victory in Spring 1975, the National Political Publishing House Truth published the book "On the great victory in Spring 1975 through documents of the Saigon government."

The book consists of three chapters: Chapter I - The Saigon government with the Paris Agreement in 1973; Chapter II - From the fall of Phuoc Long to the Phan Rang defense line; Chapter III - From the death gate of Xuan Loc to the complete collapse of the Saigon government.

The book was compiled and selected by a group of authors working at the National Archives Center II, Department of State Records and Archives, Ministry of the Interior based on a collection of documents collected by the Saigon government, recording historical events that took place in the period from the signing of the Paris Agreement in 1973 to the end of the historic Ho Chi Minh campaign, completely liberating the South in 1975.

Even though the documents left by the Saigon government and the press on the other side could not fully reflect the chronology of events, the causes of failure and the casualties and losses they left behind after the US withdrew its troops from the South, especially during the General Offensive and Uprising in the Spring of 1975.

However, history is always referenced on the basis of events and truths, so the book has reference value, helping readers have more materials from a different approach, thereby understanding more about the great significance of the great victory of Spring 1975.

These days, the whole country is joyfully looking forward to the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the South and national reunification.
