The 1-4 defeat in Binh Duong cost HAGL FC the top spot, breaking their record as the best defensive team in V-League 2024-2025. From conceding only 2 goals in 5 matches, coach Le Quang Trai's team conceded 4 goals at Go Dau Stadium on November 2nd.
In fact, the mountain town players started the match quite well, playing evenly despite being the away team. They even took the lead after center-back Ly Duc, who had joined the attack, headed the ball into the net in the 23rd minute.
HAGL also had a chance to double their lead with a quick counter-attack while having a man advantage after Tien Linh's penalty hit the post, but they failed to capitalize, leaving them unable to react in time when Binh Duong FC counter-attacked and scored the equalizer through Tien Linh in the 35th minute.
Just 10 minutes later, another momentary lapse in concentration from the defense as the first half entered injury time was punished when Tien Linh scored the second goal, giving Binh Duong FC a 2-1 lead going into halftime.
The counter-attack was unsuccessful, resulting in HAGL conceding an equalizer to Binh Duong FC, making the score 1-1.
The two goals conceded by HAGL in the second half were inevitable, as the young players' morale was affected by individual errors, while the home team was full of momentum, as evidenced by the confident and beautiful goals scored by Viet Cuong and Minh Khoa.

Coach Le Quang Trai said that this defeat will help HAGL's young players learn valuable lessons: "After the loss, HAGL Club sat down together to analyze why we conceded 4 goals. We have many things that need to be adjusted."
HAGL will have to figure out why they lost so easily, whether it stemmed from individual errors or the team's overall defensive system. In the last match, HAGL's transition between defense and attack was slow, allowing the opponent to score. We will have to build and guide the players to transition between states more effectively."
According to Mr. Trai, most V-League teams have an analysis department, so information about playing style and important statistics is collected thoroughly and intuitively.

However, the former Vietnam national team center-back believes this doesn't mean HAGL's tactics have been figured out, because how they approach and develop their playing style is a different matter. He believes the defeat in Binh Duong will help HAGL become more alert and stronger.
Coach Le Quang Trai stated: "HAGL has studied Binh Duong FC's playing style and has a solid approach, but after making mistakes, their mentality became apparent. HAGL has some young players who lack the experience to calmly control their emotions in tense matches."
What's important is learning lessons from the match, evaluating our performance, and striving for improvement. HAGL will rise stronger. The team's and leadership's strategy isn't about competing for the top spot to win the championship.
