France's victory over Gibraltar was the biggest win in EURO qualifying history, surpassing the previous record held by Germany's 13-0 win against San Marino in 2006. It was also the biggest win in French football history. Mbappe also rose to third place on the list of top goalscorers in French football history with 46 goals, behind Olivier Giroud (56 goals) and Thierry Henry (51 goals). In total, Mbappe has scored 304 goals in his career for both national team and club to date.
Haaland (9) and the Norwegian team lost their ticket to EURO 2024
Meanwhile, striker Haaland continues to have zero goals for the Norwegian national team, despite scoring 27 goals in 29 matches (ranking second in the team's all-time scoring list). Norway and Haaland's chances of qualifying for EURO 2024 have faded (they finished third in Group A) after Romania beat Israel 2-1 on November 19th to secure direct qualification in Group I. Switzerland also qualified after a 1-1 draw against Kosovo. Israel finished third in Group I and will play in the play-off round for a last-chance spot thanks to finishing above Norway in the 2022-2023 Nations League group stage. The play-off round for EURO 2024 qualification in Group B now has only one spot left to be determined between Ukraine or Iceland, after Israel, Bosnia & Herzegovina, and Finland have already secured their places.
Missing EURO 2024 will significantly reduce Haaland's chances of competing for the 2024 Ballon d'Or with Mbappe. As for the Norwegian national team, despite having a generation of excellent players, they haven't been able to lead the team to a major tournament since the 1998 World Cup, and their last appearance at the EURO was in 2000.
Sixteen teams have officially qualified for the EURO 2024 finals, including host nation Germany. The Netherlands, Romania, and Switzerland are the latest three teams to secure their places after the matches on November 19th. The teams that had previously qualified include: Albania, Denmark, Slovakia, Hungary, England, Austria, Turkey, Scotland, Spain, Portugal, France, and Belgium.
