On January 7, Mr. Nguyen Ba Ngoc (35 years old, from Ha Tinh), Chairman of the Board of Directors of Bien Dong Jumping Squid Joint Stock Company (Ninh Thuan) said that he had just successfully launched a semi-natural squid farming cage in Ninh Thuan sea, using HDPE technology.
Successfully launched semi-natural squid cage in Ninh Thuan sea, using HDPE technology
This squid cage is circular, with a diameter of over 61m, a volume of over 30,000m3 of water, designed with HDPE plastic technology, the largest in Vietnam. Around the cage are installed 1.5m wide wooden boards to create a clear path for convenient movement and care of the squid.
Around the cage is installed a 1.5m wide wooden walkway.
In particular, this cage was designed by Mr. Ngoc himself, with a cost of about 2 million VND/ m2 , the total cost is about 6 billion VND. "This cage is designed according to Norwegian standards but the cost is only 1/3 compared to cages produced in this country. Through practice, it has been proven that our pilot cages using HDPE plastic technology can withstand level 8 and level 9 sea waves...", Mr. Ngoc said.
The cage is designed according to Norwegian standards but the cost is very low, only 1/3 compared to cages produced in this country.
As Thanh Nien reported, Mr. Nguyen Ba Ngoc has succeeded in breeding and raising squid in a semi-natural environment in the sea of Ninh Thuan.
In 2019, Mr. Ngoc boldly invested in a pilot squid breeding and farming model on an area of 180m2 in Vinh Hy Bay, Ninh Hai District.
Nguyen Ba Ngoc is one of 81 young entrepreneurs awarded the title of Outstanding Young Entrepreneur of the Year 2023 by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Youth Union and the Central Committee of the Vietnam Young Entrepreneurs Association.
After a period of pilot farming, bringing high efficiency, the squid laid many eggs and the hatching rate was very high, the squid developed well, in early 2022, Ngoc borrowed water funds in the sea area of Thanh Hai commune (area C3, Thanh Hai commune, Ninh Hai district) to invest in 2 modern HDPE plastic cages with a scale of nearly 2,400m2 to meet the research and piloting needs on a larger scale. In the 2 cages, Mr. Ngoc focused on raising parent squid for eggs and raising commercial squid.
According to Mr. Ngoc, the advantage of raising squid in a semi-natural environment is that it requires less care. The bigger the squid, the less you need to feed them because there is food in the marine environment. The quality of squid meat raised in a semi-natural environment is not inferior to that of wild squid.
With this squid farming startup model, Nguyen Ba Ngoc is one of 81 young entrepreneurs awarded the title of Outstanding Young Entrepreneur of the Year 2023 by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Youth Union and the Central Committee of the Vietnam Young Entrepreneurs Association. He won the 18th Luong Dinh Cua Award in 2023, a noble award from the Executive Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union for outstanding young farmers.
