Speaking at the launching ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Tuan Anh, General Director of Ha Long Shipbuilding Company Limited (Shipbuilding Industry Corporation - SBIC) said that in 2022 and 2023, Ha Long signed a series of 8 CSOV wind power service vessels with Damen Group - Netherlands.
In July 2024, the company continued to sign an additional 6 CSOV wind power service vessels with Damen customers, bringing the total number of CSOV vessels signed with Damen to 14.
The CSOV wind power service vessel is a service vessel supporting the offshore wind power industry. The vessel is over 88m long, 19.7m wide, has a design draft of 5.3m, and a load capacity of approximately 6,700 GT.
This wind power service vessel is a type of vessel with complex systems, requiring high level of expertise and skills in construction.

To date, the two sides have started construction on 7 vessels, of which the CSOV launched today is the first vessel in both series of 14. The vessel was completed during the period when the company's production process was interrupted due to storm No. 3 making landfall in northern Vietnam, with the center of the storm mainly in Quang Ninh province.
The storm affected the company’s facilities and equipment. Many factory areas were damaged, making operations very difficult. However, the company quickly overcame the consequences and gradually restored production activities.
"Today's launching event is a clear demonstration of the determination and continuous efforts of the company to overcome difficulties, complete the project on schedule and ensure quality.
At the same time, it demonstrates the commitment of Ha Long Shipbuilding Company in its efforts and determination to strongly affirm the position of Vietnam's shipbuilding industry in the international market.

That is also the commitment of Ha Long Shipbuilding Company in innovation, meeting the needs of the global wind power industry," said Mr. Nguyen Tuan Anh, adding that with Damen's order, as well as contracts signed with domestic and foreign customers, Ha Long Shipbuilding Company has enough work until 2028.

On the Damen Group side, Mr. Kommer Damen, Chairman of the Group, said that he has coordinated with Ha Long Shipbuilding Company to construct CSOV ships for the private group CMB.Tech and Windcat Company.
Damen spent about 3 years of great effort to design this ship according to CMB.Tech's requirements, which means it must have "green" and environmental protection elements; along with a modern dynamic positioning system, stairs to take people from the ship to the world's largest wind power plants, and rooms for workers to live in for long periods of time.
"It is known that Typhoon Yagi has devastated provinces and cities in Vietnam, including Quang Ninh. Ha Long Shipbuilding Company also suffered losses. We share the losses of Ha Long Shipbuilding Company and will stand side by side with the company's staff and workers to overcome difficulties, complete products on schedule, and ensure quality," said Mr. Kommer Damen.
