Hanoi and New Zealand look to cooperate on creative industries, emission reduction

In order to further strengthen friendly relations and cooperation with capitals and localities of countries around the world, from March 26 to April 4, 2025, a high-ranking delegation of Hanoi city led by Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee and Chairman of the City People's Council Nguyen Ngoc Tuan visited and worked in New Zealand and Australia.

In New Zealand, the delegation worked with the Council and the Wellington Capital Authority. During the reception, Ms. Tory Whanau, Mayor of Wellington City, and representatives of the Wellington Capital Authority highly appreciated the visit, which coincided with the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and New Zealand and the 10th anniversary of the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding to enhance cooperation between the two capitals. She affirmed that Wellington is ready to cooperate more closely with Hanoi in many fields.

Chairman of the Hanoi People's Council Nguyen Ngoc Tuan thanked the Wellington City Council and Government for their warm welcome. He also highly appreciated the friendly relationship between the two capitals, emphasizing the need to deepen cooperation; proposing that the two sides continue to exchange high-level delegations, connect businesses, investors, and universities of the two countries to increase investment, trade, and education. Hanoi wishes to cooperate in the fields of green economy , circular economy, creative industry, and emission reduction.

Attending the Vietnam - New Zealand business meeting, the delegation introduced the fields that Hanoi prioritizes to attract investment such as: advanced technology, innovation, circular economy, clean energy. Hanoi encourages international investors to cooperate and exploit the capital's strengths to the fullest.

At the working session with the staff of the Vietnamese Embassy in New Zealand, Chairman of the People's Council Nguyen Ngoc Tuan highly appreciated the role of the bridge promoting the Hanoi - Wellington relationship, hoping that the Embassy will continue to support, towards signing a new Memorandum of Cooperation between the two capitals in 2025.
