Chairman of the Hanoi Association for the Protection of the Disabled and Orphans Phan Tien Binh said that every year since 1998, the Day for the Disabled has been celebrated nationwide on April 18. This is an opportunity to show the concern of the Party and the State, the kindness of philanthropists, and at the same time help the disabled have more motivation and confidence to participate in social activities.

Over the years, the Hanoi Association for the Protection of the Disabled and Orphans has received the attention of the city authorities at all levels, relevant units and philanthropists. Thanks to that, the material and spiritual life of the disabled is gradually improving; capacity is enhanced, barriers are gradually removed, equal participation and integration into social activities are achieved.
However, many people with disabilities still have difficulty integrating into social life. People with disabilities face many barriers in accessing health services, education , vocational training, job search, traffic participation, entertainment, etc. Recent statistics show that the country has about 7 million people with disabilities, of which Hanoi has about 140 thousand people with disabilities and this number may continue to increase every year.

Therefore, the Hanoi Association for the Protection of the Disabled and Orphans always identifies care and protection as one of its main and central activities. The Association continues to implement many assistance programs for the disabled. In particular, the Association has proactively mobilized social resources to support and help them overcome difficulties, improve their material and spiritual lives, and integrate into the community. Since its establishment, the Association has provided wheelchairs to tens of thousands of disabled people; annually supporting about 6,000 disabled people in the city.
“Connecting districts with city associations to create an information network, grasping the disabled and orphans to sponsor and support the disabled in their daily life and study,” Mr. Phan Tien Binh emphasized.

On this occasion, the Hanoi Association for the Protection of the Disabled and Orphans hopes to continue receiving attention from Party committees at all levels, authorities, the Vietnam Fatherland Front, organizations, and support from sponsors to have more resources to help the disabled and orphans.
