The Hanoi Department of Health has just issued Official Dispatch No. 5509/SYT-NVY to the Department of Education and Training, People's Committees of districts, towns and the City Center for Disease Control (CDC) on the implementation of tetanus-diphtheria vaccination in the Expanded Immunization Program.

Accordingly, the tetanus-diphtheria (Td) vaccine will be included in the Expanded Immunization Program to vaccinate 7-year-old children in the city, starting from 2024.
To organize effective vaccination, the Department of Health requests the People's Committees of districts, towns and cities to direct the Department of Health, the Department of Education and Training, the Health Center, the People's Committees of communes, wards and towns and related departments, branches and organizations to plan, organize screening of subjects and organize well the tetanus-diphtheria (Td) vaccination activities for 7-year-old children in the Expanded Immunization Program starting from November 2024 and the following years.
Along with that, the City Department of Health requested districts, towns and cities to propagate to people the benefits of proactively vaccinating against diseases in the Expanded Immunization Program.
Allocate funding for activities to organize and implement tetanus-diphtheria (Td) vaccination according to the direction of the City People's Committee in Plan No. 183/KH-UBND dated July 5, 2023 on EPI for the period 2023-2025 in the city.
Also in this Official Dispatch 5509, the Hanoi Department of Health requested the Hanoi Department of Education and Training to direct the Department of Education and Training of districts, towns and related units to coordinate with the Department of Health and the Health Center to organize the compilation of a list of 7-year-old children studying in grade 2 at primary schools in the city to review and vaccinate against tetanus-diphtheria (Td).
At the same time, direct educational institutions and schools to coordinate with local health agencies to organize tetanus-diphtheria (Td) vaccination at schools when required.
In addition, strengthen communication activities for officials, teachers, and parents about the benefits of vaccination, vaccination subjects, vaccine types, vaccine safety, time, and location of vaccination when there are specific instructions from the health sector.
In addition, the Hanoi Department of Health assigned the city CDC to develop a plan to implement the tetanus-diphtheria (Td) vaccination program for 7-year-old children in the city; provide professional guidance to the Medical Centers of districts, towns and cities to organize the implementation.
The City CDC is also the focal point for receiving vaccines from the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology and distributing vaccines to the Health Centers of districts, towns and cities for implementation in the Expanded Immunization Program. At the same time, it monitors and supports districts, towns and cities in the process of implementing the inclusion of the tetanus-diphtheria (Td) vaccine in the Expanded Immunization Program.
Talking about tetanus, according to medical experts, if not treated promptly, tetanus will lead to dangerous complications such as: bone fractures, pneumonia, laryngospasm, epilepsy, pulmonary embolism, severe kidney failure (acute kidney failure) and even death.
