Hanoi reorganizes 526 communes, wards and towns into 126 new grassroots administrative units.

Hanoi City has a total area of ​​3,359.84 ^km2 , including 30 district-level administrative units (12 districts, 1 town and 17 districts), 526 commune-level administrative units (160 wards, 21 towns and 345 communes); the permanent and temporary population is about 8.5 million people.

In previous arrangements of commune-level administrative units, due to the lack of approved planning; some districts are implementing the project to develop into districts; on the other hand, some orientations of the Central Government on the formation and development of cities under Hanoi city, satellite urban areas, belt road projects, major traffic axes..., therefore, there are 147 commune-level administrative units that have not met the standards (according to the provisions of Resolution No. 1211/NQ-UBTVQH of the National Assembly Standing Committee) and have not been arranged.

Based on the development orientation of the Capital according to the policies and resolutions of the Central Government and the laws of the State, if implemented, the Capital Hanoi will affect 296 communes, wards and towns; the reorganization of commune-level administrative units of Hanoi according to this orientation will form 53 grassroots administrative units.

Thus, the remaining 230 communes, wards and towns of the city will be reorganized in accordance with the direction of the Central Government (reduced by about 70%). The reorganization of commune-level administrative units of Hanoi city according to this direction will form 73 grassroots administrative units, along with 53 grassroots administrative units according to the direction of the development of the Capital.

"Hanoi City's reorganization of 526 communes, wards and towns into 126 new grassroots administrative units is in line with the Central Government's policies and directions and is suitable to Hanoi's practical situation," the document stated.

According to the plan to arrange commune-level administrative units of the city, among 126 new grassroots administrative units, there are 47 ward administrative units and 79 commune administrative units.
