Hanoi: Candidates begin registering for 10th grade entrance exam

The guidance on filling out the 10th grade application form is being implemented systematically and in detail by secondary schools in Hanoi. Students need to grasp the specific regulations as well as the admission principles. If any content is unclear, they can directly ask thehomeroom teacher or the admissions officer at the school where they are studying.

This year, each student can register for a maximum of 3 choices to enter grade 10 at a public high school, ranked in order NV1, NV2, NV3; When filling out the application form, candidates can fill in all 3 choices or just fill in 1 choice.

If the candidate fills in all 3 wishes, NV1 and NV2 must be in the same recruitment area according to regulations. NV3 belongs to any recruitment area.

If the candidate fills in 2 wishes, NV1 must be in the prescribed recruitment area, NV2 must be in any recruitment area.

If candidates only fill in 1 wish, they can register for any high school in Hanoi .

Students are not allowed to change their admission wishes after submitting their application form.

Students who live in areas bordering recruitment areas or whose actual residence is different from their permanent residence are allowed to change recruitment areas under the following conditions: NV1 and NV2 must register in the changed recruitment area, NV3 must be in any recruitment area.

In addition, candidates need to master the scoring formula. The admission score is the total score of 3 subjects (Math, Literature, English) with coefficient 1 plus priority points and incentive points (if any).

In the 2025-2026 school year, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training expects about 118,000 candidates to register for the entrance exam. The enrollment target for grade 10 in public schools is nearly 80,000 students; of which, 75,670 students will be admitted to 115 non-specialized public schools and 2,730 students will be admitted to specialized schools.

The 10th grade entrance exam for the 2025-2026 school year is the first exam according to the 2018 General Education Program, so there are some new points such as: Literature questions may not use materials from textbooks; new multiple choice question format, etc.

The entrance exam for grade 10 public high schools will take place on June 7 and 8 with three compulsory subjects: Literature, Foreign Language and Mathematics. On June 9, candidates taking the specialized exam will continue to take the specialized subjects. According to the plan, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training will organize about 200 exam sites with 4,500 exam rooms across the city.
