Hanoi increases measures to protect people's health against severe cold

Accordingly, the Hanoi People's Committee requested the Hanoi Department of Health to closely monitor the weather situation, the development of severe cold in the area to promptly advise the people. At the same time, coordinate with agencies to propagate, advise, and guide preventive measures for health care in the cold season for the community and workers in many appropriate and effective forms in the locality.

The Department of Health directs medical facilities to ensure adequate provision of emergency medicines, hospital beds, and equipment to promptly handle common emergencies; organize medical examination and treatment for people, and ensure cold prevention for patients and their families.

Along with that, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training directed schools in the city to implement measures to prevent cold for students, ensure adequate conditions to keep warm in the classroom; instruct teachers and school health workers to propagate to parents and students about how to protect their health in cold weather. Schools should consider adjusting their schedules in case the temperature drops too low according to regulations.

The Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs of the city has directed social protection facilities, childcare centers and elderly care centers to implement measures to ensure the health of the subjects; strengthen inspection of the eating, accommodation and living conditions of the subjects at social protection centers, and ensure adequate necessary warm-keeping items for daily life.

The Department of Construction ensures warmth and cold protection for workers at construction sites, paying special attention to accommodation and living conditions, and providing all necessary warm-keeping items.

People's Committees of districts, towns and cities inspect and supervise the implementation of health protection measures in areas at high risk of being affected by cold weather such as schools, hospitals, social protection facilities, outdoor work areas and traditional markets.

Local authorities have advised people to absolutely not use charcoal or honeycomb coal to burn and warm up in closed rooms. If the weather is too cold and coal must be used, it should only be used for a short time, the door should be left open to ensure ventilation and only warm up when people are awake; do not use the heater overnight and keep the room door closed.
