According to the report of Hanoi Department of Health, along with measles, at present, the number of cases of hand, foot and mouth disease in Hanoi is increasing according to the annual epidemic cycle. Currently, there have been some outbreaks recorded in kindergartens and communities.
If in January and February 2025, Hanoi recorded an average of only 10-30 cases of hand, foot and mouth disease/week, by the end of March 2025, it had increased to 100-180 cases/week. In the first 3 months of this year, Hanoi recorded 685 cases of hand, foot and mouth disease, more than double the same period last year.
The Hanoi Center for Disease Control (CDC) predicts that the number of hand, foot and mouth disease cases will continue to increase in the coming time. Because the peak of hand, foot and mouth disease is usually from March to May and from August to September every year.
Mr. Khong Minh Tuan - Deputy Director of Hanoi CDC said that, given the complicated developments of the epidemic, districts, towns and cities need to continue to review and speed up the progress of measles vaccination for children of regular vaccination age and those subject to vaccination according to the campaign. In addition, medical units should strengthen monitoring and detection of hand, foot and mouth disease in the community and preschools with cases and outbreaks; implement thorough treatment measures, general environmental sanitation and disinfection according to regulations.
In early April 2025, Hanoi CDC conducted surveillance and supported the prevention and control of hand, foot and mouth disease in a number of areas.
To proactively prevent and control epidemics and avoid overlapping epidemics, at the meeting on April 3, Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Health Vu Cao Cuong noted that units need to carefully review the subjects in the measles vaccination campaign, ensuring that no children aged 6 to under 9 months and from 1 to 10 years old are left out. In addition to measles and dengue fever, units also need to pay attention to other epidemics such as hand, foot and mouth disease, flu, etc., and strengthen consultation with the People's Committees of districts to promptly direct epidemic prevention and control measures in educational institutions and in the community./.
