Within the framework of the working program in Chile, the Hanoi delegation attended the seminar "Promoting investment, trade and connecting Hanoi - Chile businesses".
Also attending the program were Vietnamese Ambassador to Chile Pham Truong Giang and President of the Chile-Vietnam Chamber of Commerce, Mr. Manuel Ubilla Espinnoza.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Chairman of the Hanoi People's Council Nguyen Ngoc Tuan emphasized the good friendship between Vietnam and Chile as Chile was the first South American country to establish diplomatic relations with Vietnam; at the same time, he thanked the Chilean people for always standing side by side with the Vietnamese people in the cause of national liberation and national construction.
Giving an overview of the Vietnam - Chile trade relations in recent times, the Chairman of the Hanoi People's Council affirmed that the Vietnam - Chile Free Trade Agreement (VCFTA) was signed on November 11, 2011 and took effect from January 1, 2014, opening up great opportunities for businesses of both countries to exploit the bilateral market. However, the cooperation relationship between Hanoi and Chile is still modest while the potential between the two sides is huge.
Affirming that Vietnam in general and Hanoi in particular are safe, attractive and potential destinations; a favorable investment environment for foreign enterprises and investors, Chairman of the Hanoi People's Council Nguyen Ngoc Tuan said that the Hanoi government wishes to promote friendly and cooperative relations between the capital Hanoi and localities of Chile; at the same time, exchange and introduce the investment environment, connect businesses, promote investment, trade and tourism promotion activities. The city government is committed to creating the best conditions for businesses interested in investing and doing business effectively in Hanoi.
In his welcoming speech at the seminar, Vietnamese Ambassador to Chile Pham Truong Giang said that in recent years, trade cooperation between Vietnam and Chile has been developing very well. Vietnam is currently Chile's 5th largest trading partner in Asia, after China, Japan, South Korea, and India. In ASEAN, Vietnam continues to be Chile's largest trading partner and is also the largest exporter to Chile. At the same time, Chile is currently one of Vietnam's 4 largest trading partners in Latin America (after Brazil, Mexico, and Argentina).
According to Ambassador Pham Truong Giang, it is necessary to carry out promotional activities, advertise and approach partners in foreign markets, in order to make good use of the opportunities that Vietnam has in the context of supply chains and investment shifting trends, as well as opportunities and advantages from FTAs that Vietnam participates in. From there, it is necessary to strengthen the promotion of the investment, business and tourism environment of Hanoi, step up promotional activities, promote cooperation and economic development, especially tourism promotion, cooperation to promote investment attraction, export and import of goods with the market and partners of Chile in particular and the South American region in general.
