According to Dan Tri reporters' observations, most of the customers coming to the shop are young people who come to entertain and relax after work. The shop opens from 4pm, and is busiest from around 9pm until late at night.
Ms. Duong Quach Tu Linh (27 years old), founder of Me restaurant, shared that she is an international student who has had the opportunity to experience cultures around the world. Therefore, Linh wants to bring traditional Vietnamese dishes, transforming them into a "both strange and familiar" drink experience for international tourists and friends.
Cao Ngoc Duc (right, born 2001, Hanoi), the bar's bartender and creator of the "My vi nou" menu (left), said that when enjoying drinks and eating traditional dishes, customers will have a strange, unconventional and explosive feeling of flavor.
With the theme of Nostalgic American Taste , the dishes on the menu are arranged according to each economic region of the country, from the Northeast down to the Mekong Delta. When looking at the menu, diners will feel like they are holding a travel guide.
Corresponding to each region is a drink that is typical of that place. The menu not only introduces the process of creating the drink but also takes diners to famous landmarks of that region, combined with QR codes to enjoy the typical folk tunes of Vietnam.
With the idea of transforming a traditional dish into a drink, Mr. Cao Ngoc Duc and his team came up with a drink called Bun Cha , inspired by Hanoi. The drink is a delicate combination of herbal aroma, lemon juice, the smoky taste of meat and a little bit of fatty fish sauce and garlic...
To enhance the taste, the drink is served with shredded coconut jelly, shaped like vermicelli noodles. This unique combination creates a feeling of both freshness and savoriness, making the diner feel like they are sipping a bowl of vermicelli noodles on the streets of Hanoi.
Customers coming to the shop are also surprised by the Sour Soup, reminiscent of the sour, salty, and refreshing taste of the South. The drink is inspired by the sour snakehead fish soup, a specialty that carries the soul of the people of the South, served with caviar made from tomatoes.
“In this glass, the shop will use consomme (a specialized broth used in making drinks), combined with egg whites to make the water clearer.
The broth is made from mussel water, boiled clams, tomatoes, pineapple, and coriander. We will prepare it the day before, bottle it, and store it in the refrigerator for best preservation.”
Smoked buffalo meat has the flavor of galangal, olives, maple syrup, mixed with a bit of smoke, reminiscent of the villages and mountains of the Northwest - a place famous for its specialty of smoked buffalo meat.
“With this drink, the buffalo meat will not be seasoned so that customers can feel the flavor of the drink more clearly,” Mr. Cao Ngoc Duc added.
Drinks at the bar cost 230,000 VND/glass. Many young people think that this is a reasonable price and somewhat cheaper than other pubs in Hanoi.
Mr. Dang Khoa (born 2005, HCMC) was introduced to the shop by a friend who had traveled to Hanoi and said that the drinks here were very unique.
“After coming to experience it, I felt quite excited about both the space and the drinks. I never thought that it was possible to combine dishes into drinks like that. When drinking, I was really surprised to be able to feel the taste of garlic, mixed with a little saltiness,” said Mr. Khoa.
Not only unique in drinks, the shop also impresses with the combination of traditional and modern cultural space.
The counter table is arranged in the form of an artistic journey combined with famous Dong Ho paintings such as Lon herd, Dam cuoi rat ... Recreating the colorful scene of ancient Vietnamese village life.
However, some details are redesigned, more modernized in terms of costumes and hairstyles.
Ms. Duong Quach Tu Linh, the shop owner, shared that she wanted to create a space with a strong Vietnamese character, creating a sense of familiarity for diners every time they visit and remember Vietnam, remember the traditional dishes of the regions in the most special way.
“Many Western visitors are quite interested in Dong Ho paintings and want to bring a book home as a souvenir,” she said.
The shop uses lights in the three main colors of Dong Ho paintings: burgundy red, earthy yellow, and dark green. The hanging lamps are also handmade from wind paper in Chuong village. Everything is meticulously cared for to create the most unique folk cultural space…
Giang Kieu Minh (born 1991, Ba Dinh) often looks for pubs with beautiful designs and unique drinks to experience.
She shared: “This is the first time I have enjoyed a drink in such a unique cultural space. The pub model is usually hidden in small alleys. However, the shop has taken advantage of the lake to create an open space like drinking coffee on the street.”
The Son (born 1997, Hanoi) said he likes to watch the streets and does not like to be confined in a small, crowded space, so this model is very suitable.
“However, there is one thing I am not satisfied with: the music. I feel that the music here is still too modern. I wish the music would be more melodious and classical so that people can chat while sipping drinks,” Son added.
