Hanoi contributes 10% of IT industry revenue

DNVN - Always a locality in the top group of the country in the information technology and digital technology industry, in 2023, Hanoi ranked 3rd in the country in terms of revenue in the field, reaching 327,000 billion VND (about 13 billion USD). This figure corresponds to 10% of the revenue of the entire information technology industry in the country.

Speaking at the conference to deploy the “Plan to develop Vietnamese digital technology enterprises in Hanoi until 2025” on June 27, Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Bui Hoang Phuong commented that Hanoi and localities across the country have made great contributions to Vietnam's digital technology industry.

“Always a locality in the top group of the country in the information technology (IT) industry and digital technology, in 2023, Hanoi ranked 3rd in the country in terms of revenue in the field, reaching 327,000 billion VND (about 13 billion USD). This figure corresponds to 10% of the revenue of the entire IT industry in the country.

Hanoi ranks second in the country in terms of software industry and first in terms of IT service revenue. There are more than 7,300 digital technology enterprises operating in the area, ranking second in the country. Notably, Hanoi is the first locality to allow the Department of Information and Communications to establish the IT Industry Department,” said Mr. Phuong.

Deputy Minister Bui Hoang Phuong said that Hanoi ranks second in the country in software industry and first in the country in IT service revenue.

Assessing that Vietnam is facing opportunities to become a country with a leading digital technology industry in the region and the world, Mr. Phuong recommended that Hanoi take advantage of this opportunity to develop breakthroughs and lead the country in the field of digital technology industry.

Regarding the highlights of the “Plan for developing Vietnamese digital technology enterprises in Hanoi by 2025”, Mr. Nguyen Anh Viet - Head of the IT Industry Department (Hanoi Department of Information and Communications) said that there are three main groups of targets in the plan. These are developing 10,000 digital technology enterprises; forming 10 groups of digital technology products as the city's key industrial products.

Along with that, 10 innovative digital technology startups will be incubated, capable of providing the market with digital technology products and services to serve the development of digital government, digital economy and digital society of the Capital.

The plan also sets out 5 groups of general tasks and solutions and 17 groups of specific tasks and solutions that will be focused on in the coming time to develop Hanoi's digital technology enterprises.

Representatives of Hanoi IT Training and Consulting Center signed a cooperation program with partners.

Within the framework of the conference, the Hanoi Department of Information and Communications signed with the Vietnam Software and IT Services Association (VINASA), the Hanoi Information Technology and Telecommunications Association, and the Hanoi Association of Small and Medium Enterprises programs and memorandums of understanding on cooperation in developing digital technology enterprises, promoting digital transformation; promoting digital transformation in small and medium enterprises; and building a smart city.

In addition, the Hanoi Center for Training, Consulting and Information Technology under the Department of Information and Communications also signed the "Coordination Program to develop the Hanoi City Innovative IT Business Incubator for the period 2024 - 2025" with VINASA, MISA, and Weangles Fund Management Company to develop the Hanoi City Innovative IT Business Incubator.
