The event aims to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025); taking place at the headquarters of the Hanoi Capital Command.

At the beginning of the meeting, delegates enjoyed a special art program with the theme "Spring Epic" performed by the Art Troupe of Military Region 2.
All to liberate the South and unify the country
In an emotional and proud atmosphere, delegates listened to veterans, former youth volunteers, and former people's police officers share their heroic memories of the wartime and the love for the Fatherland that always burned in their hearts.
Colonel Nguyen Huy Phuong - former Vice President of the Hanoi Veterans Association recalled the years of arduous fighting and being honored to be admitted to the Party on the battlefield.
“In January 1968, I entered the battlefield and was assigned to Company 3, Battalion 3, Special Forces Group 429 of the heroic Southeast region of the river region. Fire tests gold, hardship tests strength, with the mission of reconnaissance and special forces fighting in Tay Ninh province, after successfully completing the combat mission, I was admitted into the Party by the Party cell. May 17, 1968 was a day of profound significance in my life, when I had the honor of becoming a Party member. I realized that the brothers who were admitted to the Party on the battlefield all went through arduous and fierce training, thanks to which they forged the courage to overcome difficulties and sacrifices to complete their missions,” Mr. Phuong said.
After completing his mission and returning to civilian life, Colonel Nguyen Huy Phuong always tries to complete his assigned tasks and keeps in mind that, in all circumstances, he must always maintain the qualities of a party member, the tradition of Uncle Ho's soldiers and the title of Exemplary Veteran.
Former youth volunteer Le Hong Thuy expressed his emotion and pride when speaking on behalf of more than 40,000 cadres and members of the Hanoi City Veterans Association at the meeting.
In 1968, Mr. Le Hong Thuy joined the youth volunteer force and was honored to contribute to the liberation of the South and the reunification of the country with the task of ensuring traffic on key routes that were fiercely attacked by American aircraft. Together with the engineering forces and frontline laborers, Mr. Thuy and his teammates carried bombs and bullets on the front lines of Quang Binh and Quang Tri to clear the roads and pave the way for vehicles to transport goods and weapons to the front lines...
“I myself was injured twice, including once when I went in to rescue 32 teammates when a rock block over 50m high suddenly collapsed. However, this incident helped us gain experience to avoid many accidents when we opened a new road in Lang Ho, Quang Binh and expanded the crossroad (Huong Lap, Huong Hoa, Quang Tri) from the Dan Chu intersection of National Highway 16 to Highway 10,” Mr. Thuy shared.
“We promise to the souls of the heroic martyrs, our comrades and teammates that we will continue to promote the heroic tradition of the Vietnamese youth volunteer force, fully and seriously implement the Party's guidelines and policies, the State's policies and laws; be devoted to comradeship, be exemplary in living, studying and following Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morality and style; truly set an exemplary example for the younger generation to study and follow; actively participate in building the grassroots political system, participate in movements and campaigns launched by the Central and local governments,” Mr. Le Hong Thuy emphasized.
Mr. Nguyen Son, a former officer of the police force supporting the southern battlefield during the resistance war against the US, also shared about the years of arduous fighting in the Quang Tri front, the southern liberated zone, and the Lao battlefield. Under the direction of his superiors, Mr. Nguyen Son's unit deployed technical and professional work; discovered and accurately identified spy and commando groups and coordinated with other forces to successfully dismantle many special cases, including the espionage case in the capital Hanoi.
After the liberation of the South, the unit continued to discover re-planted spies and infiltrated commandos...
“We are very confident and proud to witness that under the leadership of the Party, the country is changing strongly, the People's Public Security force in general, and the Hanoi Public Security in particular, are constantly growing and maturing, continuing to promote the precious traditions of previous generations, and excellently completing all tasks assigned by the Party and the people,” Mr. Nguyen Son affirmed.
A typical representative of the generation willing to sacrifice their youth for the Fatherland and the people.
Speaking at the meeting, Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee Bui Thi Minh Hoai said that under the wise and talented leadership of the glorious Communist Party of Vietnam and the great President Ho Chi Minh, the army and people of the whole country overcame countless difficulties and hardships, fought steadfastly, creatively, fought bravely, sacrificed, and achieved glorious feats, the peak of which was the General Offensive and Uprising in the spring of 1975, winning complete victory in the historic Ho Chi Minh Campaign, liberating the South and reunifying the country.
According to the Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee, during the years of the resistance war against the US to save the country, the army and people of Hanoi both focused on restoring and developing the economy, and together with the people of the North, devoted all their efforts to supporting the revolution in the South with the spirit of "Not a pound of rice is missing, not a soldier is missing", "All to defeat the American invaders"... Hanoi was always proactive, leading, and initiating many patriotic emulation movements, typically: "Three ready", "Three responsible", "The Truong Son stick", "Putting down the pen and ink to fight the US", "Each person works as two for the beloved South", the twinning movement "Hanoi - Hue - Saigon"...; is a vivid proof of the revolutionary spirit of the Party Committee, army and people of the Capital; the peak of which was the coordination with the army and people of the North to create the miracle of "Hanoi - Dien Bien Phu in the air" at the end of December 1972, praised by the world as "The capital of conscience and human dignity".
The Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee emphasized that the veterans, former youth volunteers, and former people's police officers attending today's meeting are typical representatives of the generation that was ready to sacrifice their youth and blood for national independence and the happiness of the people; trained and matured in the revolution, becoming high-ranking officials of the Army and the People's Police. Many comrades are Heroes of the People's Armed Forces, holding important positions in Party and State agencies, in the Vietnam People's Army, and in the Vietnam People's Police.
"You, comrades, have set a shining example of courage and sacrifice, with the spirit of "Sacrificing yourself for the Fatherland, serving the people" both in wartime as well as in the period of nation building," comrade Bui Thi Minh Hoai emphasized.
The Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee also said that after successfully completing their tasks and being allowed to retire by the Party and the State, many comrades, despite their advanced age, with their revolutionary enthusiasm, dedication, rich experience and high sense of responsibility to the Party and the people, still care about and actively participate in local work, contributing to the construction and development of the capital.
“The Party Committee and people of Hanoi are proud and grateful to you, comrades, for the peace, independence, freedom of the Fatherland and the happiness of the people. Your contributions are precious assets of the capital and the country,” emphasized comrade Bui Thi Minh Hoai.
Briefing delegates on the outstanding achievements of the capital in recent times, the Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee affirmed that the victory of the resistance war against the US to save the country was a great spiritual motivation, encouraging the entire Party, people and army with the spirit of attack, trust, pride and confidence to firmly step into the era of the Vietnamese nation's rise.
Comrade Bui Thi Minh Hoai hopes that in every step of development, the Capital will always receive the sincere encouragement and support of the veterans, former youth volunteers, former people's police officers - revolutionary soldiers who have dedicated their lives to the cause of fighting to protect and build the Fatherland.
