On August 27, the first group of nearly 500 people out of a group of 4,500 Indian tourists arrived in Vietnam. Hanoi was the first stop on the itinerary to explore Vietnam. This was the largest Indian MICE group ever to visit Vietnam.
Accordingly, the group of 4,500 Indian guests will be divided into small groups and arrive in Vietnam from August 27 to September 7. They are all employees of Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Limited from many different countries, but mainly Indians and are classified as high-spending guests. The service was booked 2-3 months in advance. This is also a group belonging to one of the top 5 billionaires in India. Accompanying the group, this billionaire will also be present.
On August 27, the first group of nearly 500 guests arrived in Hanoi. In the afternoon, the group divided into small groups to visit Hoa Lo Prison, Temple of Literature, Ba Dinh Square, etc.
Director of the Center for Scientific Activities of the Temple of Literature - Quoc Tu Giam Le Xuan Kieu said that this was a large group of tourists, so the unit had a plan to support reception such as: parking, and visitor flow. The group of tourists coming to the Temple of Literature - Quoc Tu Giam mainly visited the exhibition areas.
A representative of Vietravel Travel Company (the unit that organizes some transportation services for the group) said that the unit has prepared a system of high-class tourist vehicles with modern design to bring comfort to tourists during the journey to each location on the tour itinerary.
It is known that the Indian tourist group came to Vietnam according to a pre-designed schedule. The Indian tourism agency proactively booked rooms at hotels in Vietnam. Due to the large number of visitors, the group will have a schedule to visit Ha Long, Ninh Binh and then return to Hanoi to stay. Currently, there are 11 5-star hotels in Hanoi welcoming this group of visitors.

Hotels are ready to welcome the group of guests. Many hotels such as: InterContinental Hanoi Landmark72, Meliá Hanoi, Movenpick Living West Hanoi, Pan Pacific Hanoi, Novotel Hanoi Thai Ha… hire Indian chefs and import some ingredients to ensure preparing a rich menu with traditional Indian dishes. Some Vietnamese dishes are also included in the menu to introduce to tourists such as: pho, fish noodles, fish cakes and desserts made from green rice of Vong village are also introduced to tourists.
Hanoi Department of Tourism has directed destinations to coordinate with organizing units to guide priority flow for tourist groups; arrange separate ticket control personnel; ensure safety and security for tourist groups within the tourist attractions...
For the 11 5-star hotels where the delegation stayed during their stay in Hanoi, the Department of Tourism directed the improvement of the quality of facilities and ensuring security and order, fire prevention, and food hygiene and safety.
India is now one of the 10 largest international tourist markets in Vietnam. According to the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, in 2023, Vietnam welcomed more than 392,000 Indian visitors, an increase of 231% compared to 2019. Notably, in the first 6 months of 2024 alone, Vietnam welcomed 231,000 Indian visitors, a remarkable increase of 164% compared to the same period in 2023.
The Indian market is offering great potential for Vietnamese tourism to exploit MICE tourism groups, especially wedding tourism with lavish weddings of the super-rich.
According to experts, Vietnam has all the strengths to attract more of this type of tourist due to its favorable geographical location and flight routes. In addition, Vietnam is still a new destination with diverse culture, cuisine, and rich natural resources.
Vietnam welcoming a group of 4,500 Indian visitors at this time is opening up many opportunities for localities to improve service quality and increase revenue from MICE visitors.
