On November 5, Ha Dong District Police (Hanoi City) said that the Criminal Police Team had just clarified a property theft case that occurred at Mullberry apartment building (Mo Lao ward).
Accordingly, at the end of October, local police received many reports of thefts at the above apartment building. The stolen assets were expensive bicycles that were "forgotten" by the owner or left in the lobby without locking them carefully, and the apartment building's security also lacked control.
Many vehicle owners do not even know their property is missing until they are notified by the authorities.
During the investigation, using professional measures, Ha Dong District Police determined that the thief had a relationship with the residents of the apartment building and knew about the loopholes in vehicle storage and maintenance.
Through surveillance camera extraction, the police found that the common point in the thefts was that a Peugeot car left the basement. The owner of this car was a female resident of the building. The girl had a boyfriend who often came by.
After verifying, the authorities summoned the female resident's boyfriend, Nguyen Huy Hung (37 years old), to the headquarters for questioning.
Here, Hung initially denied the crime, however, when faced with clear evidence, Hung bowed his head and admitted to the theft.
The suspect confessed that after coming to the apartment building many times, he realized that the security force was very negligent in watching the bicycles. Therefore, Hung stole 3 bicycles from residents 3 times, on October 18, October 24 and October 25.
According to authorities, Hung is the owner of a car park in Trung Van ward (Nam Tu Liem district). He has 4 previous convictions for disturbing public order and harming the health of others.
Through the incident, the commander of Ha Dong District Police requested that the security forces of apartment buildings and residents themselves need to be aware of protecting their property, avoiding creating loopholes for bad guys to take advantage of.
At the same time, the leader also recommended that apartment buildings need to install surveillance cameras in hidden spots, around areas with people passing by; install a system to control vehicles and vehicles entering and exiting using magnetic cards.
