TPO - Nhat Tan peach village, Tay Ho district, Hanoi is in the Tet season, however, due to the impact of storm Yagi, this year the output of Nhat Tan peach village has decreased sharply, and peach prices are higher than previous years.

Due to the impact of the historic storm (Yagi), this year, the output of Nhat Tan peach village - the oldest and most famous peach growing area in the North - has decreased sharply, causing peach prices to increase compared to previous years. The quantity of peaches for Tet this year has decreased significantly, especially in precious peach gardens, causing prices to increase. Traders and consumers have also started to buy early, worried that there will not be enough goods to meet Tet demand. |
Many peach garden owners in Nhat Tan said that due to reduced output and increased prices, they only sell Tet peaches in retail, not wholesale. |
"This year, peach blossoms bloom later than last year. It's the Tet flower season but many trees have not bloomed yet. Garden owners have decided to sell them retail until close to Tet to make more profit to compensate for the peach blossoms that died due to the flood," said Ms. Nga, a peach garden owner. "In previous years, the price of peach branches like this was only about 500,000 to 2 million VND/branch, this year the price is from 1.8 to 4 million VND/branch." |
Typhoon Yagi, which hit Hanoi in September 2024, caused serious damage to many peach gardens in Nhat Tan and neighboring areas. |
Thanks to efforts to “save the trees”, gardeners affirm that the market still meets demand, however, prices will be slightly higher than in previous years because the quantity supplied to the market is somewhat limited. |
Survey shows that prices have increased slightly, small Nhat Tan peach trees with many buds cost from 200,000 - 350,000 VND/branch. |
Large peach trees cost from 2 million VND/branch, depending on size or shape. |
Small peach branches with beautiful flowers, people offered to pay over 1 million VND but the garden owner has not agreed to sell. |
Currently, garden owners continue to water, spray fungicides, and preserve buds until Tet. Warmer weather has caused many peach trees to bloom early. |
Some ancient peach trees with blooming flowers are being rented or sold for up to tens of millions of dong. |
