Hanoi announced sample test questions for 7 subjects for 10th grade entrance exam in 2025

To help students, parents and schools in Hanoi prepare early for the 10th grade entrance exam from the 2025-2026 school year, the Department of Education and Training announced the structure and format of the 10th grade entrance exam in the direction of assessing students' abilities in the following subjects: literature, math, foreign languages; history and geography; natural sciences; information technology; and civic education .

Of the 7 subjects, 2 are in essay format: literature and math; 5 are in multiple choice format: foreign languages; natural sciences , history and geography; civic education; and information technology.

Literature test time is 120 minutes, including 2 parts: reading comprehension and writing; Math test time is 120 minutes, the test consists of 5 parts.

Multiple choice tests consist of three parts. Part 1 consists of multiple choice questions, with four options, of which only one answer is correct. Part 2 consists of true/false questions; each question has four options. In each option a), b), c), d), the candidate must choose true or false. Part 3 consists of short answer multiple choice questions. The candidate must fill in the boxes corresponding to his/her answer.

How to calculate scores for each subject

Regarding scoring, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training stipulates a 10-point scale and calculates scores for each subject as follows:

Literature: reading comprehension 4 points; writing 6 points.

Math: mathematical thinking and reasoning (3 points); mathematical problem solving (4.5 points); mathematical modeling (2.5 points).

For multiple choice tests: In multiple choice test format (part I), each correct answer is worth 0.25 points. In true/false test format (part II), the maximum score for a question is 1.0 point, in which a candidate who chooses only 1 correct answer in a question gets 0.1 point; a candidate who chooses only 2 correct answers in a question gets 0.25 points; a candidate who chooses only 3 correct answers in a question gets 0.5 points; a candidate who chooses 4 correct answers in a question gets 1.0 point.

Short answer multiple choice test format (part III): each correct answer gets 0.25 points.

The Department of Education and Training requires schools to direct professional groups and teams to research and apply appropriate test format structures for each subject, paying attention to objective test formats so that 9th grade junior high school students can get acquainted; increase test formats including: multiple choice tests with 4 options to choose 1 correct answer; true/false tests (each question has 4 options, at each option choose true or false; short answer tests.

Strengthen the construction of question banks and test matrices according to the requirements of the subject program; prepare 9th grade students to get acquainted with the orientation of the entrance exam for grade 10 high school according to the 2018 General Education Program, encourage schools in the area to build a digital library of test questions and surveys to share with educational institutions in the area to exchange, study, and support the effective implementation of methods and forms of testing, assessment, and surveying.

Research and implement the use of materials in tests and surveys to ensure compliance with regulations. For literature, avoid using texts and excerpts learned in textbooks as materials to test and assess reading comprehension and writing skills in periodic tests to overcome the situation where students only memorize lessons or copy content from available documents.

The 2025-2026 school year is the first year that the 10th grade entrance exam will be conducted according to the 2018 General Education Program. The announcement of the exam format is to help 9th grade students in the 2024-2025 school year as well as staff and teachers of schools in the city have specific directions to organize teaching, learning, and effective review, and prepare well for the exam.
