Accordingly, strategic investors selected according to regulations in the semiconductor sector will enjoy many investment incentive policies of Hanoi.
Mr. Nguyen Tran Quang, Deputy Director of the Hanoi Center for Investment, Trade and Tourism Promotion, said that recently, Vietnam has been attracting many large corporations in the semiconductor industry from the US, Korea, Japan, European countries... to come and learn and invest.
In particular, Hanoi, with its strategic location and many unique advantages, has great potential and opportunities to develop and attract investment in the technology sector, including the semiconductor industry.
Professor, Doctor of Science Nguyen Mai, former Principal of the University of Commerce, former Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee, commented that with two Academy of Sciences, dozens of universities with a team of leading professors and experts in science and technology; an increasing number of enterprises... Hanoi currently has many advantages to develop the semiconductor component manufacturing industry.
Foreign enterprises also evaluate Hanoi in particular and Vietnam in general as investment destinations and production growth.
For example: Apple has moved 11 factories to Vietnam; technology company Intel expanded the second phase of its microchip testing plant in Ho Chi Minh City with an investment of 4 billion USD until 2025; Boeing, Google and Walmart have announced plans to expand their supplier network and manufacturing facilities in Vietnam after market research.
Up to now, Vietnam has been attracting more and more large corporations in the semiconductor industry from developed countries such as: USA, Korea, Japan, Netherlands... (about 40 companies). Along with that, many domestic companies have also joined the market such as: Viettel, FPT, VNChip...
Notably, research organization Savills also pointed out that the sudden increase in electronics and phone export sales reflects the process of improving Vietnam's position in the value chain.
With the above potentials, Hanoi is considered one of the provinces and cities developing the semiconductor manufacturing industry in the country.
According to Mr. Nguyen Viet Hung, Director of Hanoi Department of Information and Communications, to develop the semiconductor industry, Hanoi will focus on issuing appropriate mechanisms and policies, developing digital infrastructure, promoting scientific and technological research; promptly removing difficulties, creating favorable conditions for businesses to accelerate the process of shifting operations to the digital technology field, investing in core technology research; proactively researching the market, choosing appropriate research directions, developing and providing Make in Vietnam digital technology products and services...
At the same time, promote the development of concentrated information technology zones; prioritize the selection of testing, investment, leasing, and purchasing of digital technology products and services from enterprises; cooperate in research and training on digital technology with universities and colleges; promote business activities on digital platforms...
In recent times, Hanoi has continuously improved its investment and business environment, actively reviewed administrative procedures, simplified and accelerated the time for receiving and processing procedures, created convenience and reduced costs for people, organizations, and businesses... contributing to improving the investment environment and enhancing the city's provincial competitiveness.
