The information posted on a parent group with thousands of followers has caused confusion. Many parents are worried because if the combined subject is chosen as the third subject in the upcoming 10th grade entrance exam, their children will have to review many subjects.

With a scale of more than 2 million students from kindergarten to high school, the first-level admissions in Hanoi are always "hot".

In addition to the lack of schools in the inner city, enrollment in Hanoi is also "hot" because of the high demand for specialized schools, high-quality schools, and prestigious private schools.

Last year, the entire city of Hanoi had 117,361 candidates registering for the public school entrance exam. Of these, about 106,000 candidates registered for their first choice in non-specialized grade 10.

Hanoi's public 10th grade quota last year was approximately 81,000, an increase of about 4,000 compared to 2023. Thus, about 25,000 candidates failed the public exam, which caused a fierce race with parents.

Hanoi and many provinces used to have 10th grade exams with 4 subjects, rotating the 4th subject, but in reality, the situation of lopsided learning, focusing on main subjects over secondary subjects is still a difficult problem.

In Ho Chi Minh City, the announcement of the third exam subject for grade 10 in 2025 was made right after the Ministry of Education and Training issued a circular on the Regulations on Secondary School and High School Admissions - on January 8.

Accordingly, the 10th grade entrance exam in Ho Chi Minh City in 2025 will include 3 subjects: literature, math, and English.
