Ha Nam: Deploying a peak period of collecting DNA samples from relatives of unidentified martyrs

(PLVN) - On April 22, the People's Committee of Ha Nam province held a conference to deploy the peak of collecting DNA samples of relatives of unidentified martyrs in the province and commend organizations and individuals who have made positive contributions in collecting DNA samples.

Following the direction of the Prime Minister, the Ministry of Public Security, the Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial People's Committee have directed the Provincial Police to coordinate with the Department of Administrative Management and Social Order Police, the Ministry of Public Security, People's Committees of districts, towns, cities, departments, branches and sectors to launch a peak period of collecting DNA samples of relatives of martyrs whose identities have not been determined with the goal of completing the collection of all DNA samples for relatives of martyrs before April 30, 2025.

Specifically, the Department of Administrative Management of Social Order, Provincial Police has organized 45 concentrated sample collection points in districts, towns and cities, and at the same time called for the support of agencies, businesses, collectives and individuals to support funding to collect DNA from relatives of martyrs whose identities have not been determined.

Up to now, the Provincial Police have coordinated with relevant units to collect 3,420 DNA samples from relatives of over 1,800 martyrs. The DNA samples of martyrs' relatives were collected by the testing unit and put into the gene bank, then analyzed, compared and verified with the samples of martyrs' remains that have been searched for and collected.

Provincial leaders witnessed the signing ceremony of a sponsorship contract for the implementation of the DNA sample collection program for martyrs' relatives between the Provincial Business Association and representatives of Genstory Company.

It is known that in Ha Nam province, there are still 9,342 martyrs whose graves and remains have not been identified; 5,852 martyrs have relatives who are eligible to collect DNA samples, and 3,490 martyrs have not yet had their relatives identified. Based on the collected data, the Department of Administrative Police for Social Order, the Provincial Police has proactively coordinated with units of the Department of Administrative Police for Social Order, GeneStory Company to organize 2 rounds of collecting DNA samples from martyrs' relatives in the province with a total of 1,660 samples (relatives of 842 martyrs). Currently, there are 7,246 relatives of 5,010 unidentified martyrs who need to have their DNA samples collected.

Speaking at the conference, Mr. Truong Quoc Huy, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, acknowledged and commended the sense of responsibility, dedication and efforts of the Provincial Police force and related agencies, departments and branches; the joint efforts and companionship of organizations, individuals, businesses and the trust and cooperation of families and relatives of martyrs in the past time.

With the highest political determination, towards the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South, National Reunification, and the 78th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs Day, the Provincial People's Committee has directed the Provincial Police to play a core role, proactively advising and coordinating with departments, branches, and localities to synchronously deploy solutions to complete the collection of DNA samples for 100% of the remaining eligible relatives before April 30, 2025.

At the same time, request departments, branches, unions, People's Committees at district and commune levels to closely coordinate with the Provincial Police in reviewing and supplementing martyrs' data; widely propagate so that people understand the meaning of the program, actively participate in providing information and supporting martyrs' relatives; mobilize union members and volunteers to support martyrs' relatives in the process of moving and collecting samples, creating a widespread movement in the community; continue to direct the search and collection of martyrs' remains, prepare conditions to organize the reception of martyrs' remains to identify their identities.

The provincial police continue to promote their role as a permanent, pioneering unit, ensuring that the DNA sample collection is carried out scientifically, accurately, in accordance with procedures and on schedule; continue to coordinate with the Department of Administrative Police for Social Order and related departments and branches to review and compare data between the DNA samples of martyrs' relatives and the martyrs themselves to promptly detect and identify the identities of martyrs in the province.

Also at the conference, representatives of units and businesses with many contributions to the work of collecting DNA samples of relatives of unidentified martyrs in Ha Nam province were honored and rewarded.
