Heritage economy is a special economic sector, based on the values of cultural heritage for economic development. This is a development trend that many countries and localities are interested in. For Ha Long City, along with the cultural industry, heritage economy is a sector with a lot of potential for development.
Ha Long currently has nearly 100 historical, cultural and scenic relics. Among them, there is 1 special national relic, Ha Long Bay Scenic Area, 6 national relics, 16 provincial historical relics, 73 relics in the inventory and classification list, along with many archaeological relics from the prehistoric and prehistoric periods, reflecting the historical succession since humans appeared in this land thousands of years ago.
In Ha Long City, there are currently 16 traditional and modern festivals. Typical festivals include: Long Tien Pagoda Festival, Ba Men Temple Festival, Tran Quoc Nghien Temple Festival, Bang Ca Village Festival, Van Yen Communal House Festival, Giang Vong Communal House Festival... Organizing experiential activities at cultural and historical relics of the city, or activities to promote and introduce local products are useful and practical ways to exploit advantages and potentials, promote the heritage values of the city, and attract tourists.
In recent years, tourism services in the city have been constantly developing and achieving important results. In 2023, the city welcomed 8.55 million tourists, of which international visitors are estimated at 1.5 million. Total revenue from tourism activities is estimated at 18,900 billion VND. However, the length of stay of visitors to Ha Long is still short. Many entertainment, recreation and shopping services lack appeal, uniqueness and have no highlights that need to be edited and supplemented.
The Ha Long City Party Committee has just held a meeting to listen to and give opinions on the Pilot Project for Night-Time Economic Development in the city, period 2024-2025. The project is designed to create solutions to overcome current shortcomings and limitations, promote the development of sustainable services based on exploiting and maximizing the potential and distinct advantages of the city.
Mr. Vu Quyet Tien, Member of the Provincial Party Committee Standing Committee, Secretary of Ha Long City Party Committee, emphasized: The project to develop the night-time economy aims to enhance the city's tourism and services, contributing to the development of cultural industry and heritage economy in the city in the future. The City People's Committee needs to update and carefully evaluate the city's potential advantages in the field of tourism and services; clearly identify the types of night-time economy both onshore and at sea to have development orientation and build specific products.
According to Mr. Vu Quyet Tien, in addition to existing night tourism and service areas (around Sun Group park, Bach Dang walking street...), it is necessary to plan and develop more in other areas such as: Tuan Chau international tourism and entertainment area, Dang Ba Hat hill, urban areas concentrated in Hung Thang ward, central markets (Cai Dam market, Ha Long I market)...
Ha Long also studies development in relic sites, golf courses, builds plans for night-time economic development in communes in the northern part of the city; creates shopping centers, paying attention to regional specialties. In Ha Long Bay, it is necessary to study the organization of music events, night parties on ships; build tours, tourist routes to visit fishing villages, aquaculture areas, pearl farming areas at night; night fishing and squid fishing services...
In the immediate future, Ha Long is speeding up the implementation of a number of construction projects such as Bai Tho Temple, Ba Chua Temple, King Le Thai To Temple, implementing the City of Flowers and Festivals project, and renovating sidewalks and infrastructure in the city's core areas. At the same time, mobilizing headquarters, agencies, units, restaurants, and hotels in service and tourism centers to install decorative colored lights, creating a sparkling and brilliant landscape at night.
