For the past 5 years, Ha Giang province has always been in the bottom group in terms of national high school graduation exam scores.
Mr. Tran Duc Quy - Vice Chairman of Ha Giang Provincial People's Committee shared with Lao Dong Newspaper reporters about this issue.
PV: Through the results of the high school exam in 2024 and recent years, do they reflect the reality of the quality of education in Ha Giang? Could you please tell us what is the cause?
- Mr. Tran Duc Quy : The results of the recent high school graduation exam completely reflect the educational situation of Ha Giang. Although this year is higher than previous years, compared to the national average, Ha Giang is still the last group of provinces.
There are several reasons. Firstly, Ha Giang is a province with a low starting point, mainly ethnic minorities and the Mong ethnic group accounts for the highest proportion in the country.
Second, due to the low level of education, the input of students from primary to higher levels cannot meet the requirements. In addition, it must be admitted that the level and capacity of the educational staff do not meet the requirements as in many other localities across the country. Obviously, there must be good teachers to have good students.
Third, Ha Giang has not been able to meet the investment in education. In fact, there are still many schools in the area that still have combined classes, so how can they make a breakthrough?
PV: So, in your opinion, what is the solution that Ha Giang province will focus on to improve the quality of education and improve exam scores?
Mr. Tran Duc Quy : Although Ha Giang has had many solutions and projects to improve the quality of education, this requires a long process to have positive changes. First, the people's knowledge must be raised, which means that parents must pay more attention to their children's education to invest in it promptly.
The important thing, in my opinion, is that Ha Giang needs to have a source of quality teachers. This is a difficult problem, in reality, most of the teachers with capacity and conditions rarely come to Ha Giang. Meanwhile, the policy to attract teachers to remote areas like Ha Giang is not really attractive.
Ha Giang province has a project to improve the quality of education, but the biggest difficulty is the funding for this, which is currently not enough. For example, Ha Giang currently wants to eliminate combined classes. To do this, it needs to gather the population, but with this geography, it is very difficult. Ha Giang is doing it, but it will take a long time.
Next is to reduce the number of schools, and eventually eliminate them, that is the goal of Ha Giang, but it requires a huge budget for the children to go to boarding school. The nature of this highland area is that teachers have to find students to come to class, that is the reality.
PV: With such solutions and determination, do Ha Giang province and the education sector set any goals for the coming time, sir?
Mr. Tran Duc Quy : As I said, this cannot be done overnight, meaning that it must be good from level 1, then level 2, level 3. This is a process, with a low starting point like Ha Giang, we will do it step by step.
Of course, the goal is still there. In fact, compared to previous years, the results of the high school graduation exam have been better. Like last year, Ha Giang had more than 20 students in the excellent student exam compared to only 5 or 6 students in previous years. That is also a change.
PV: Thank you.
The results of the 2024 National High School Graduation Exam showed that Ha Giang ranked 63/63 with an average score of 5,598 points. Of which, the average math score was the lowest in the country with 4.58 points.
This is the fifth consecutive year that Ha Giang has ranked last in the exam score rankings.
