On the evening of March 30, Song Lam Nghe An defeated Dong Thap Club 2-1 at Vinh home stadium, within the framework of the 2024-2025 National Cup.

Previously in the round of 16, the Western representative created an earthquake when they eliminated championship candidate Hanoi FC on penalties. So in the confrontation with Song Lam Nghe An, they were extremely confident.

Coming to Vinh Stadium, Dong Thap Club chose to play a defensive game, staying deep and waiting for counter-attack opportunities.

The home team had a lot of difficulty in launching attacks against the defense of coach Phan Thanh Binh’s team. “Conductor” Ho Khac Ngoc also appeared helpless when trying to find a way into the opponent’s goal throughout the first half.

However, according to observations, this was probably an own goal by the away team player. However, the organizers updated and recorded it as a goal for Phan Xuan Dai.

While being absorbed in attacking, Dong Thap Club continued to receive a "drench of cold water" when the home team broke through the net for the second time. Dinh Xuan Tien was the one who scored to help the home team double the gap.

Trailing by 2 goals, coach Phan Thanh Binh's team unexpectedly scored a goal to reduce the score to 1-2 in the 81st minute. Nhat Dong was the one who scored to help Dong Thap cling to hope in the National Cup.

In the following minutes, despite their best efforts, Dong Thap Club still could not score another goal and accepted a 1-2 defeat. The Western representative officially ended their fairytale journey in the quarter-finals of the 2024-2025 National Cup.

Meanwhile, Song Lam Nghe An will be the second team to enter the National Cup semi-finals after Becamex Binh Duong.
