Google Creates AI Doctor That Can Help Diagnose Diseases

According to BGR , bringing AI into the task of assisting doctors is not a new idea as IBM has been trying to do this for quite a while with the Watson computer system. However, despite being around for more than 10 years, Watson has not really progressed. Now, Google's DeepMind division is also trying to do that by proposing a new AI model called AMIE, or Articulate Medical Intelligence Explorer.

Artificial intelligence can help doctors in diagnosing diseases

A recent paper posted to the arXiv server shows that AMIE can take information from patients and then provide a clear explanation of their current medical condition. However, AMIE is not designed to replace doctors. Google's AI doctor system is only intended to act as an assistant to doctors in examining and advising on health. This is because talking to an AI doctor can be intimidating for some people.

While many of us have concerns about the AI systems that many companies use, products like AMIE are different, as Google hopes to make doctors’ lives easier and also improve the quality of visits patients receive. If doctors don’t have to do everything, such as explaining health conditions, visits can be more efficient.

Of course, it remains to be seen how well these AI systems actually perform. In theory, they could produce good results, but the real test will be how they approach humans in everyday situations, as humans can be quite unpredictable in how they react to things.
