Google Launches Pixel Tablet for $499

According to BGR , the Pixel Tablet was introduced by Google at I/O 2022, which means the company took a year to officially release the product to the market. It is a tablet with a large 10.95-inch LCD screen with uniform bezels as large as an iPad, and based on the position of the front camera, the main design goal of the product is in landscape mode. The selfie camera is located on the side with a resolution of 8 MP.

In terms of specs, the Pixel Tablet offers the Pixel 7 Pro experience but on a larger screen. The same Tensor G2 chip found on the Pixel 7 series is also available on the Pixel Tablet. Google equips the device with 8GB of high-speed LPDDR5 RAM, combined with 128GB or 256GB of storage options, with UFS 3.1 format instead of the newer and faster UFS 4.0.

The 2,560 x 1,600-pixel LCD display offers up to 500 nits of brightness and supports a stylus. Like the front camera, the 8MP rear camera can record 1,080p video at 30fps.

Other specs on the Pixel Tablet include four speakers, a four-pin accessory connector, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, and UWB connectivity. There's a USB-C port on the bottom that supports charging the 27Wh battery, which is good for 12 hours of video playback. The speaker dock has a built-in 15W charger to keep the device charged.

The Pixel Tablet also has Chromecast built-in, so you can share all kinds of media files to it. It also supports smart home features in docked mode. Google also emphasized that Android 14 can take advantage of the larger screen when it announced the first public beta, but that update won't arrive until after the Pixel Tablet hits stores.

The selling price of $499 is considered high.

With all that, the Pixel Tablet is what the Android tablet family needs. It’s a better tablet experience that can compete with Android. But the Tensor G2 can’t match the M1 or M2 on Apple’s best tablets, so the Pixel Tablet can’t even replace the iPad Air 5. More importantly, it’s priced at $499 when it hits shelves on June 20, 2023 — a figure that won’t satisfy many people for a product with such weak hardware.
