Over the past few days, the technology world has been abuzz with the announcement that "Google is discontinuing the Gmail service."

The shocking information was posted by Chris Bakke, a former Google employee. This person pretended to be a Senior Product Manager at Google and claimed to have been asked by CEO Sundar Pichai to shut down the AI platform, but accidentally terminated the Gmail service.

The rumor quickly spread on social media, making Gmail one of the hottest topics of discussion. To reassure Gmail users, Google had to deny the information.

"We confirm that Gmail service is still operating normally. Information about our email service being closed is just fake" - Google's announcement on social network account X emphasized.

Next, Google also confirmed that it will stop operating the online payment system Google Pay, to switch to the Google Wallet application.

The announcement said Google Pay will stop working in most regions around the world on June 4, except Singapore and India. The decision means the service will no longer be available in more than 180 other countries and regions around the world.

When Google Pay is "killed", Google will replace it with the Google Wallet application.

Google made the decision based on demand and positive user feedback. Google Wallet has seen a higher usage rate than Google Pay. Therefore, the company decided to focus on providing a simpler, more convenient, and easier-to-use online payment service.

Google Wallet was first introduced in 2011, aiming to allow users to make online payments with Android devices. It was later merged with Android Pay in 2017 to create Google Pay.

Google Wallet is back in 2022 with a focus on storing credit cards and other important documents, along with the ability to integrate modern technologies like Ultra Wide Band.

Google says existing Google Pay users will not lose access to their stored payment methods.
