Today, December 17, when accessing Google's homepage, users in Vietnam will see a stylized image of Ha Long Bay with majestic limestone mountains on a turquoise sea background, a cruise ship taking visitors to enjoy the beauty of the Bay in the sunset, under the shadow of seabirds.
Google Doodle selected the most typical images of nature and people in Ha Long Bay to celebrate December 17, 1994, when Ha Long Bay was first recognized by UNESCO as a World Natural Heritage.
Besides its natural values, Ha Long Bay is also a tourist attraction with great appeal to domestic and international tourists, attracting millions of visitors each year, contributing greatly to the local and Vietnamese economy.
Ha Long Bay is a small bay in the Gulf of Tonkin, including an island sea area formed 3 million years ago, now under the management of Ha Long city, Quang Ninh province.
According to Vietnamese folklore, a dragon landed in this sea, creating towering rocks on the water like the dragon's winding body. Currently, this area has nearly 2,000 large and small islands, a place of biodiversity with many endemic flora and fauna.
