Specifically, in a blog post, Google parent company Alphabet said on Tuesday that ads will appear in the “sponsored” section of AI Overviews based on the relevance and information of the question.

Google is looking to expand its dominance by converting traditional search advertising to AI technology, which is expected to boost ad sales, the main source of revenue for the US-based tech giant.
Google reported a 13% increase in advertising revenue to $61.7 billion in the first quarter ended March 31. The company said it will continue to test and explore new ad formats, seeking feedback from advertisers.

Last week at its I/O developer conference, Alphabet showed off how it’s building AI into its businesses, including the Gemini chatbot and improvements to its dominant but at-risk Google search engine.
According to Alphabet, with the Overviews AI feature, users will still ask questions in the traditional Google Search section. Then, Google will immediately provide answers, along with advertisements for related products, instead of providing links to related information websites or press websites.
