In a July 28 White House statement, President Joe Biden authorized the US Secretary of State to allocate $345 million in military supplies, training and training services from the US Department of Defense for the Taiwan support package.
The US Congress has authorized the US president to provide aid to Taiwan using weapons already in the US military’s inventory, which is what the US is doing with Kiev to save time compared to new production.
China has always considered Taiwan a province awaiting reunification and declared its readiness to use force if necessary. Beijing has recently held many large-scale military exercises in the waters surrounding Taiwan with many modern weapons and equipment.
According to AFP, Washington's move is sure to anger Beijing. China has opposed any contact between countries with Taiwan and has left open the possibility of using force to reclaim the island.
Previously, there was information that the US Department of Defense planned to buy air defense systems no longer in service with the Taiwan Defense Force to transfer to Ukraine.
