On the evenings of August 9th, 17th, 23rd, and 31st, the Idecaf Theatre will be performing the play "Dad, Mom's Coming Home!" (authors: Nguyen Thi Minh Ngoc - Vu Minh; director: Vu Minh; restage: Quoc Thinh - Tuyet Mai). The play features performances by artists Hoang Trinh, Dai Nghia, Hong Anh, Quoc Thinh, Phi Nga, Cong Danh, and others.
The play "Dad, Mom's Coming Home!" takes the audience to the everyday life and culture of the impoverished rural area of Cù Lao Rén. There, the family of Mr. Tư Chơn, a musician (played by Quốc Thịnh), and Mrs. Thắm (played by Hoàng Trinh) live happily with their two young children. On a ferry trip from Saigon back home, the ferry capsizes, and Mrs. Thắm disappears into the river.
From then on, Mr. Tu Chon lived day after day, consumed by longing for his wife, struggling to overcome life's hardships, raising his two children alone, and holding onto his faith and hope for the day he would be reunited with the wife he loved so dearly. Ten years passed, and Mr. Tu still waited for Mrs. Tham to return.
During lonely days, missing his wife, he would sing songs and melodies, folk songs, and cải lương (Vietnamese traditional opera) pieces, confiding in himself, recalling memories and beautiful moments of love with the woman he always cherished, to ease his longing.
Year after year, rain or shine, he diligently rowed his boat along the river, searching for his wife. Friends and children tried to persuade him to accept Thắm's death and hold a memorial service for her, but he remained stubborn in his beliefs.
One day, Mr. Tu Chon's close friends decided to go to Ho Chi Minh City together to visit Mrs. Tham's family and inquire about her whereabouts. Although the trip didn't yield the desired results, it was from this point that the truth about Mrs. Tham's mysterious disappearance years ago gradually began to unfold…
The play delves deeply into the emotional life and profound marital devotion of Mr. Tư Chơn, evoking empathy and emotion in the audience as they follow the character's psychological journey. It also explores the hidden corners of the human soul and the depth of human psychology amidst life's ups and downs, offering multifaceted perspectives on pure romantic love and the deep bond of marriage.
Watching the play, the audience will receive plenty of witty and enjoyable laughter through cheerful comedic situations with many unexpected twists. Alongside this, they will experience a range of emotions, touching moments, and a celebration of the noble values of affection, family happiness, romantic love, and profound fidelity… of the honest, righteous, and compassionate people of Southern Vietnam.
The play features many folk songs, chants, and melodies familiar to music lovers: "Homeland Soul," "Recalling the Homeland," "Love of Rice and Moonlight," "Returning Home to Fish," "Fragrance of Young Rice Hair," "Red and Red Ly," "The Sound of the Zither," "I Want to Take You Home," "Wedding on the Country Road," "You Walk on the Young Grass," etc.
