So when the students switch from the old 9th grade curriculum of the 2023-2024 school year to the new 10th grade curriculum in the 2024-2025 school year, will there be any difficulties? This is an issue that parents and students are very concerned about when their children enter 10th grade soon.
First of all, to be admitted to grade 10 as desired, students need long-term preparation. Acquiring and accumulating knowledge and skills for the exam is very important. Normally, the 3 subjects chosen by many localities are math, literature and foreign language; therefore, students have the mindset to prepare for these 3 subjects right from the moment they enter the secondary school environment.
In addition, preparation is not only about knowledge but also other factors such as health. Focusing too much on studying is not necessarily a good thing, but more importantly, it is necessary to scientifically arrange between studying and relaxing. When necessary, you can divide and consider the priority of activities so as not to affect work productivity and health. You can imagine preparing to enter high school as a marathon, always turning constantly and not stopping halfway to establish a reasonable plan.
According to the new general education program, high schools when designing and building subject groups will base on the orientation of the stream and closely follow the actual situation according to the teacher resources and facilities of the unit. Every student after graduating from junior high school always has his/her own orientation through personal capacity, career counseling from teachers and parents. Therefore, students must determine their purpose when registering for subject groups right from grade 10 to avoid having to change their wishes in the following school years.
From the 2022-2023 school year, the 2018 General Education Program has begun implementation in grade 10.
The 2006 General Education Program focuses on one-way knowledge transfer. In contrast, the 2018 General Education Program teaches and develops students' qualities and abilities. The difference between the goals and requirements of the old and new programs will inevitably cause difficulties and confusion for students entering grade 10 in the 2024-2025 school year.
Therefore, first of all, teachers guide students on how to choose a subject combination that is appropriate to their abilities, interests, and future career orientation. In addition to the four compulsory subjects at high school level: math, literature, English, and history, teachers need to provide specific guidance on choosing other subjects in the prescribed education program. When choosing the right subject combination, students will have a clear motivation and purpose for studying. On the contrary, choosing the wrong subject combination can cause students to lose the opportunity to orient their future career, making studying difficult and the results not as expected.
Subject teachers should also spend time transitioning for students to get used to the new curriculum learning method, actively support, encourage, and motivate students to learn knowledge through many channels, proactively accumulate, and be creative in searching and processing information to meet the requirements of the lesson objectives.
