In 2024, Hue City continued to achieve many outstanding results in forest protection and development. Accordingly, the total area of planted forests reached 6,670.8 hectares, exceeding the plan by 7.6%; the forest coverage rate reached 57.18%. Notably, the area of forests certified for sustainable management by FSC increased to more than 13,220 hectares. In addition, more than 1 million scattered trees were newly planted, contributing to greening bare land and enhancing people's livelihoods.
Forest fire prevention and control work has also made progress. During the year, the city recorded 47 forest fires, down 19 cases compared to 2023. The area of forest burned was 3.08 hectares, a sharp decrease compared to the previous year. Forest rangers organized more than 480 patrols and 84 raids in key forest areas, combined with inspections of forest fire prevention and control plans in 154 communes and wards with forests.
In the field of conservation, biodiversity monitoring activities in Sao La Nature Reserve and Phong Dien Nature Reserve continue to record many rare species such as the red-shanked douc langur, Javan pangolin, striped rabbit, etc.
Campaigns to remove animal traps, prevent hunting of wild birds, and rescue wild animals have been effectively implemented, contributing to raising awareness of protecting wild animals in the community.
In addition, financial resources from forest environmental services and greenhouse gas emission reduction programs continue to support thousands of households along the forest. Total revenue in 2024 will reach more than 141 billion VND, contributing to increasing income and encouraging the community to participate in forest protection.
At the conference, delegates also frankly acknowledged difficulties such as: Pressure to change forest use purposes, complex climate change developments, risk of decline in natural forest quality...
To achieve the goal of increasing the planted forest area to 6,500 hectares and maintaining a coverage rate of 57.2%, Hue city has proposed solutions such as strengthening inter-sectoral coordination; promoting the application of forest monitoring technology; tightening the management of forestry varieties; developing non-timber forest products; promoting the planting of large timber forests associated with FSC certification...
Rewarding groups with outstanding achievements |
Vice Chairman of Hue City People's Committee Hoang Hai Minh emphasized that in 2025, unusual developments of extreme weather will directly impact forestry production activities. The livelihood issues of people living near forests and lack of land for production will create great pressure on local forest management and development. Therefore, the forestry sector must strive, focus all resources and come up with appropriate and breakthrough solutions to effectively carry out forestry development tasks in 2025.
According to Mr. Hoang Hai Minh, by 2025, the forestry sector needs to effectively protect and gradually improve the quality of natural forests, increase productivity and quality of planted forests towards large-scale, environmentally sustainable timber production to strive to achieve and maintain the city's forest cover rate.
Focus on effectively implementing plans and directives of the City Party Committee and People's Committee, and have specific plans to implement activities. Implement well the regulations on forest protection coordination, proactively propose measures to organize and implement the regulations on coordination between neighboring localities.
Review forest development plans to ensure compliance with the city's general development plan. Strongly apply information technology to forest resource monitoring; set up a camera system to monitor key fire areas.
At the same time, operate and effectively use drones in forest monitoring and management. Improve forest fire prevention and control, develop specific response plans and closely coordinate with the fire police force, and strictly manage the burning of vegetation. Focus on promoting communication to raise awareness in forest protection, nature conservation and wildlife protection.
