Provincial and district authorities surveyed the environmental situation in Giong Trom district.

In the district, there are 5 craft villages including My Long rice paper, Son Doc rice paper, My Thanh pliers, Phuoc Long coconut fiber basket weaving, Hung Phong coconut fiber basket weaving. Phuoc Long coconut fiber basket weaving village is currently undergoing the dissolution process because it is no longer operating effectively. 3/5 craft villages have environmental protection plans approved by competent authorities. In the district, there is 1 Phong Nam Industrial - Handicraft Cluster, according to the planning area of the whole cluster is 71.9722ha and phase 2 expansion has 5 projects. Phong Nam Industrial - Handicraft Cluster does not have a centralized wastewater treatment system, currently, projects operating in the cluster have invested in a wastewater treatment system that meets standards before discharging into the environment. According to the 2025 plan, the province will allocate 500 million VND in capital to carry out steps to prepare a feasibility study report for the construction investment project to invest in the cluster's centralized wastewater treatment system.

The volume of domestic waste generated in the district is about 110 tons/day; the total number of households registering for domestic solid waste collection services in the district is 5,179/54,013 households, reaching 9.59%, this low rate is because most households are in rural areas far from concentrated residential areas, there is no garbage collection route, the volume of garbage collected and transported to the district's concentrated landfill for treatment is about 20 tons/day. The rate of urban solid waste collection is about 91.25%, rural areas about 80.34%; the rate of households classifying waste at source is low, about 31.13%.

The management of solid waste treatment facilities has been strengthened. The district's centralized landfill in Tan Thanh commune, invested in 2010 with an area of 6,621m2 , to bury waste transported from communes and towns, is now full and no longer in operation. The district's Department of Agriculture and Environment coordinates with the People's Committee of Tan Thanh commune to regularly monitor the environmental situation of the landfill to promptly handle environmental incidents that occur.

The district's centralized landfill in Chau Binh commune has been operating since July 2021 with an area of 1.24 hectares, receiving waste from communes and towns with an average volume of domestic waste of about 20 tons/day; periodically using biological products to spray to deodorize the landfill; at the same time, private units are providing garbage collection services by hiring vehicles to rake garbage into the pit, not letting garbage accumulate and affect the environment.

Currently, the district is implementing the socialization of waste collection and transportation services, with private units negotiating unit prices with households in 18/21 communes and towns to transport waste to the district's centralized landfill in Chau Binh commune for burial. For rural areas without collection services, people self-treat at home by various forms of composting, burying, burning, selling scrap, and solid waste, which households are provided with 2 trash cans for classification. In addition, some households implement the organic waste composting model to effectively treat waste.

In the coming time, the district will continue to propagate and disseminate legal regulations on land and environmental protection to raise people's awareness. Continue to replicate effective environmental protection models. Strictly manage the collection and treatment of solid waste in the district.

“Environmental management work has been focused on by all levels, sectors, district unions and People's Committees of communes and towns, basically achieving the set plan. Inspection and handling of violations of the law have been carried out regularly, contributing to limiting environmental pollution in livestock farming, production and business activities. Many models of environmental pollution treatment and remediation have been widely deployed; State management of the environment in communes and towns has been strengthened and has had positive changes”.
