Singer Tran Tung Anh won the Special Prize in the 2024 Young Music Talent Search contest held in China.

The singer said this success was the result of more than 3 months of continuous practice.

“The competition had so many contestants that it made me a bit ‘overwhelmed’. I always told myself to do my best and be confident first and foremost for the sake of the flag. Luckily, when I performed with my two natural voices, I heard many surprised ‘wows’ from the audience, which made me much more confident,” Tran Tung Anh shared.

After the first competition night, Tran Tung Anh thought for sure that he... wouldn't have to compete anymore, but unexpectedly the next day the Organizing Committee announced that in the youth opera competition, Vietnam had chosen the most outstanding performance to perform on the opening night, which was Tran Tung Anh's performance.

Tran Tung Anh participated in the youth opera category with a medley of famous Vietnamese chamber songs: Spring in the war zone, The girl sharpening spikes, The bird that reports good news, The ferryman on the Po Ko river, and The Lo River epic. He mixed and arranged the mashup to suit his voice and style.

At the competition, Tran Tung Anh performed with his two natural voices: a genderless voice and a real male voice. The male singer shared that he could have chosen to sing an international song in the competition, but he chose to bring the quintessence of Vietnamese chamber music to introduce the beauty of the country's music to international friends.

Sitting waiting for the award announcement, not understanding Chinese, Tran Tung Anh just observed. When he saw his name and the two words Vietnam, he guessed he won the... Encouragement prize.

"I thought I would only win the Encouragement Award because my name was called last, but unexpectedly I won the Champion Award in my category. My feelings at that time were of surprise. After that, I was overwhelmed with happiness when I was judged to have a good and excellent performance. Until now, I am still very happy because I dared to challenge myself and tried my best to achieve good results, bringing honor to myself and to my homeland and country," Tran Tung Anh expressed.

To win this award, in addition to his own efforts, Tran Tung Anh also received guidance and advice from Master - Meritorious Artist Lan Anh.

Tran Tung Anh expressed his gratitude to teacher Lan Anh for her dedicated teaching and to pianist Nguyen Le Thuyen Ha for inviting, encouraging and motivating him to participate in the competition. He considered this an initial success and promised to continue practicing to pursue and explore his own abilities in opera music. He hopes that the audience will love and recognize his efforts.
