Indian elite - Potential wedding tourism customers

Da Nang is a great place to hold a wedding.

It can be seen that India is considered a potential market with willing-to-spend tourists that Vietnamese tourism needs to quickly grasp. Weddings of the Indian elite are often held for a long time in luxury resorts, renting the entire place or a separate area for singing and dancing. The number of guests is up to several hundred people, so it requires a large number of rooms. This group of guests will also take advantage of the opportunity to travel locally, have fun and shop, bringing in significant revenue.

An Indian couple chose Da Nang city as the venue for their wedding ceremony from January 19 to 21, 2024. This is the first Indian wedding in the new year 2024 with nearly 500 guests, service staff and more than 1 ton of materials, costumes, and props transported from India to Da Nang to serve the wedding ceremony. All 258 rooms at the Sheraton Grand Da Nang Resort and Convention Center were fully rented to serve the guests attending this wedding ceremony.

The Da Nang Department of Tourism said this is the first Indian delegation to come to the city to hold a wedding this year. In the coming months, it is expected that there will be 5 more wedding events of brides and grooms from India held in Da Nang, with parties ranging from 200 to 350 guests over 3-5 days. In addition, hotels have also received dozens of wedding events of couples from Japan and several other countries. "These are positive signals for the development of wedding tourism in Da Nang, affirming the right investment of the city government in this type of tourism that is still quite new in the Vietnamese market," said Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoai An - Deputy Director of the Da Nang Department of Tourism.

Next, the wedding of bride Heena Paryani and groom Bhisham Ramchandani (India) took place from February 29 to March 2 at a 5-star hotel in Da Nang, which was just revealed, showing the level of luxury of Indian weddings as well as the potential of Vietnam as a destination for wedding tourism products.

According to the representative of the resort, Danang Marriott resort & spa, an estimated 250 guests from Hong Kong (China), the Philippines, India, the US... flocked here for the wedding of the couple above. Although taking place abroad, the wedding was imbued with Indian traditions and customs, with a series of grand wedding ceremonies.

The three-day event began with a welcome night on the first night, followed by a lively Mehndi ceremony themed after an outdoor pool party the following day. This was followed by Sangeet, an evening of music, dance and heartfelt performances by family and friends for the bride and groom.

Mr. Piotr Madej, general manager of Danang Marriott resort & spa, said that guests had a special experience showing the beauty of traditional India against the green backdrop of the resort and Non Nuoc beach of Danang.

In the first 5 months of 2024, Da Nang also welcomed 4 weddings of Indian couples with more than 1,200 guests, and consulted more than 26 couples interested in Da Nang as a destination. Although the numbers are still modest, wedding tourism is gradually making significant contributions to the city's tourism industry structure.

The Department of Tourism of Da Nang City has issued a plan to develop Da Nang tourism and a pilot program to attract wedding tourists to Da Nang in the period of 2024 - 2025. It can be said that Da Nang is a pioneer destination in the country with orientation and a well-planned strategy for developing wedding tourism products, attracting high-quality customer markets, in addition to MICE and golf products.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoai An, Deputy Director of the Department of Tourism of Da Nang City, hopes that this city will become a new and popular wedding tourism destination in the Asian region: “Currently, with the infrastructure that Da Nang City has and the strength of its natural landscape, Da Nang is completely capable of developing an ideal destination for wedding tourism. We will launch a wedding tourism development program, the communication message is “Da Nang, the origin of happiness”. The simple message contains the beauty of a peaceful, livable city as well as the feelings of the people and tourists towards this destination as a place to meet, date and record beautiful stories not only of couples but also of relatives and friends who come to attend wedding events in Da Nang. We also hope to gradually build the brand of Da Nang to become a favorite destination for wedding tourism, and at the same time, wedding tourism becomes one of the key products in the high-quality tourism package in Da Nang.

Many other ideal destinations for Indian visitors to choose from

In addition to Da Nang, other tourist destinations in Vietnam such as Ha Long, Nha Trang, and Phu Quoc are increasingly being chosen by the Indian elite to hold wedding ceremonies.

Accordingly, a super-rich Indian couple held a wedding with the participation of 350 guests from January 21 to 23, 2024 at Sunset Town and a resort in Phu Quoc. To hold the wedding, the couple booked the entire 5-star resort in the southern part of the island and brought a team of kitchen staff, artisans, designers, fashionistas, models, singers, musicians, dancers... from India to serve the guests.

Similarly, according to information from Quang Ninh Newspaper, the wedding of groom Vivek Dinodiya - Indian billionaire, Director of Global Import-Export Company PL Global Impex Pte Ltd and bride Anmol Garg took place over 3 days from February 16 to 18, 2024 at Vinpearl Resort and Spa Ha Long.

It is known that the Indian billionaire family chose to hold the wedding ceremony in Ha Long after surveying many other famous destinations in Vietnam. In February 2023, another Indian billionaire couple also chose Ha Long as the place to hold their big day. This is the largest wedding ever held at Vinpearl Ha Long resort. The 600 guests are super-rich people, businessmen, large business owners in India and countries in the Southeast Asian region such as Singapore, Thailand..., along with many officials of the Indian Government, the Indian Embassy in Vietnam, the Israeli Embassy in Vietnam. The service team also reached 500 people, brought over from India.
