On October 13, in Hanoi, the Ministry of Industry and Trade coordinated with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, relevant ministries, agencies and localities to organize an exhibition area for Vietnam's special agricultural products exported to China with the participation of 16 Vietnamese enterprises, introducing over 50 groups of high-quality products from 3 regions of the country.

The survey shows that these products are very suitable for the needs, tastes and food safety requirements of the Chinese market. Among these, there are many products that are especially favored by Chinese consumers such as coffee, tea, durian, bananas, dairy products, bird's nests, etc.

In addition, the Exhibition Area also introduces products with great potential for good supply to the Chinese market, which have just opened the market such as fresh coconut, frozen durian. In addition, there are many products with potential supply that the Chinese market certainly has high demand for such as fruits.

Vietnamese enterprises participating in the Exhibition Area are dynamic enterprises in the agricultural and food industry: PAN Group Joint Stock Company, TH Group (TH Food Chain Joint Stock Company), Khanh Hoa Salanganes Nest State-owned One Member Co., Ltd., Nutifood Binh Duong Nutrition Food Joint Stock Company, AVANEST Vietnam Nutrition Joint Stock Company, Phong Hai Lao Cai Joint Stock Company, Trung Nguyen Legend Group, Ameii Vietnam Joint Stock Company, Hoa Viet International Agriculture Joint Stock Company, Nutricare Nutrition Joint Stock Company, Thanh Thanh Cong - Bien Hoa Joint Stock Company, Chanh Thu Fruit Import-Export Group Joint Stock Company, Vinh Phat Fertilizer Joint Stock Company, Visimex Group Joint Stock Company, Vietnam Agricultural and Food Import-Export Joint Stock Company, Banana Brothers Farm Joint Stock Company.

According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Vietnam-China comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership is developing very well, bringing practical benefits to both sides; in which, economic and trade cooperation between the two countries is increasingly developing deeply and widely and achieving many important and positive results, despite the decline of the world economy.

One of the important priorities in economic, trade and investment cooperation between Vietnam and China is that the two sides continue to strive to maintain a stable, balanced and sustainable development trend; actively promote and promptly complete procedures to export more Vietnamese products with strengths to China, especially agricultural and aquatic products.

In recent times, China has always been identified as the largest and most important export market for agricultural, forestry and fishery products of Vietnam. In the first 9 months of 2024, the export turnover of agricultural, forestry and fishery products to China reached 9.26 billion USD; of which, the export turnover of vegetables and fruits reached 3.4 billion USD, an increase of 36% over the same period in 2023. With this result, China continues to be the export market of Vietnamese vegetables and fruits in the past 9 months.

To date, Vietnam has officially exported 14 agricultural products to the Chinese market: durian, bird's nest, sweet potato, dragon fruit, longan, rambutan, mango, jackfruit, watermelon, banana, black jelly, mangosteen, lychee and passion fruit. Vietnamese durian, dragon fruit... are very popular with Chinese consumers, the import volume of these products from Vietnam accounts for about 1/5 of the total agricultural product import volume from ASEAN.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade has also closely coordinated with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development in negotiating with China to open more export markets for other Vietnamese fruit and vegetable products such as green-skin grapefruit, fresh coconut, avocado, pineapple, star apple, lemon, melon...

Proposing to improve efficiency and regulate the speed of customs clearance of import and export goods at border gates between Vietnam and China, especially for seasonal agricultural and aquatic products; quickly and strongly shifting to official export.

With the above efforts, during the visit of General Secretary and President To Lam to China in August 2024, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam and the General Administration of Customs of China signed three protocols, paving the way for the export of fresh coconuts, frozen durians and crocodiles to the Chinese market.

The signing of protocols allowing official export of agricultural products has created momentum for many types of Vietnamese agricultural products in this market. Durian is an example. After the Protocol on official export of durian to China, the export value of Vietnamese durian to this market in the past 2 years has been much larger than the previous years combined.

In 2022, durian exports will reach 420 million USD, in 2023 they will reach 2.3 billion USD, a 5-fold increase compared to 2022 and a 10-fold increase compared to 2021; of which, over 90% will be exported to China. Obviously, thanks to the Protocol, durian exports have achieved such impressive results. However, the results achieved in the past have not been commensurate with the potential, needs and strengths of each side.

Currently, in addition to 14 types of agricultural products that go through official channels, most of the remaining items are exported through border trade channels (informal channels); while the demand for fruit consumption in the Chinese market is very large and Vietnam's ability to supply high-quality, specialty fruits is abundant; along with the advantages of bilateral and multilateral trade agreements of which both countries are members.

Vietnam is also a country with more than 1,450 km of border (waterway, road) with China, so logistics costs are low and more competitive than other countries. Therefore, there is still a lot of room for fruit businesses of the two countries to exploit and develop.

Organizing the Exhibition Area of Vietnam's special agricultural products exported to China is a good opportunity for Vietnamese manufacturers and suppliers to introduce and promote their brands and images of special agricultural products as well as meet and seek customers, enhance trade, and build sustainable cooperative relationships with potential partners in fruit import in China.
