Vietnamese rappers are making a mess

Việt NamViệt Nam08/08/2024

In 2024, the Vietnamese rap world is more chaotic than ever when a series of rappers are involved in scandals and many rap products are criticized for being sensitive.

Liberality and freedom are part of what makes rap different from other genres of music. However, in recent months, the liberality of Vietnamese rappers has become ridiculous, when a series of events occurred. A veteran rapper was criticized for publicly posting rap battles, containing many obscene words online. A series of rappers rushed to "beat" each other, with sensitive rap songs. And many rappers were involved in personal scandals.

It is time to take strong action to regulate the scope of activities of Vietnamese rap, now that rappers have overcome the "dark area" and brought music to the masses.

Many young rappers are running wild with their lyrics.

Many sensitive products

After only a few years, the growth rate of Vietnamese rap has increased exponentially. The clearest evidence of this development is the number of rap songs released. Over the past year, there have been many rap products, or rap combined with other music genres, of good quality to compete fairly in the "top trending", even reaching the level of a hit song that spread very strongly like Sad or happy , Cook for me ...

On the contrary, there are many rap songs with nonsense content, with flexing themes. Exceptions, there are products that contain particularly sensitive content, such as putting illegal substances in the lyrics. In the product Devil's Nest Among the young rappers who have attracted attention recently, there is "I will chill with you if your house has weed".

There are countless rap songs in which rappers add stimulants to “polish” the lyrics and express their ego. Some rappers actively “dodge” by distorting the sound. And there are bold rappers who freely put sensitive things into their music. These types of products are mostly unlabeled and are released openly and widely on YouTube and other online music platforms.

Typical as Devil's Nest , the Music Video attracted 12 million views, along with tens of millions of listens on online music platforms.

Recently, Coldzy and spirit must remove rap Fever because he was condemned by the audience for using many sensitive words. tlinh is one of the new generation rappers who is becoming famous in the market, but is constantly involved in scandals with sensitive music and statements. Strangely, until now, the former Rap Viet contestant has not been affected. Similarly, the moment rapper MCK Smoking freely at a show, in front of the audience, was ignored despite the audience's condemnation.

Need to control tightly

The development of rap in the Vietnamese market does not follow a standard path, but is a mutation thanks to a catalyst called game show Rap Viet. Because of this, the rapper world and rap music products have changed rapidly, leading to a loss of control. From season 3, the game show Rap Viet saw the sensitivity and immediately disciplined the contestants by absolutely banning sensitive content in performances broadcast on television.

The most famous rappers in the Vietnamese rap market today are mostly aware of the scope of what they can do when joining the same game with artists in other music files. The rest, especially the new rappers, actively ignore the warnings to create music that is called "true rap identity". In a short time, when not controlled, rappers encroach and become more and more excessive in using lyrics and musical materials for their products.

Not only the scope of music products, rappers' events, creating sensitive products are also freely spread online. Recently, a series of sensitive videos at the Dissneeland event had to change status, allowing netizens to only access in a more private space.

The rap world was once tightly controlled by a series of sensitive products by rapper Chi Ca, rapper Chi and Binz's erotic performance at Live Concert. In recent years, when things have become more chaotic than ever, from diss battles, to vulgar products and many sexy stages, it is time to take strong action to regulate things.

“Working underground, not mainstream” is the way many rappers use to justify when being criticized by audiences for making sensitive and vulgar music. However, once that rapper still sets the goal of making money, publicly releasing music on YouTube and digital music to reach all ages of audiences, the story is no longer just underground.
