Ho Chi Minh's corner in every school
Upon entering Phu Hoa 3 Primary School in Thu Dau Mot City, a small corner decorated with rustic bamboo and wood immediately catches the eye in the main hall. This is the "Ho Chi Minh Cultural Space," where students can learn about the great leader of the nation.
With familiar items like rubber sandals and a cloth pith helmet, along with vivid images and documents about Uncle Ho, this small corner is like a miniature museum, helping children visualize more clearly the life and career of Uncle Ho. Stories about Uncle Ho with the children, told in a warm and friendly voice, have awakened in their hearts a deep love for him.
The idea of creating a "Ho Chi Minh cultural space" originated from the desire of Ms. Le Thi Kim Thuy, the school principal, who noticed the students' curiosity and desire to learn about President Ho Chi Minh. Ms. Thuy utilized recycled materials, along with the collaboration of teachers, parents, and students, to create a space that is both meaningful and economical.
Ms. Thuy said: "I really wanted all the students to experience the content, images, artifacts, and history related to Uncle Ho at school, so I came up with the idea of building a cultural space dedicated to Uncle Ho. Talking about Uncle Ho is a very broad topic, so we had to build content and knowledge that was as close to the students as possible. The school held a meeting together to develop a plan and create specific content that was relevant to the students, along with some lessons related to Uncle Ho. From there, we chose a theme that would help the students understand and internalize information about Uncle Ho in an easy-to-understand way."
Located right in front of the main hall of Ly Thuong Kiet Primary School in Di An City, the "Ho Chi Minh Cultural Space" is like a sacred place dedicated to President Ho Chi Minh, attracting students, teachers, and parents to visit every day.
With vivid models such as the Nha Rong Port, Uncle Ho's stilt house, or Pac Po Cave, children feel as if they are transported back to the glorious historical years, joining Uncle Ho in his quest to save the country. Particularly noteworthy is the monument simulating Ba Dinh Square, placed prominently on a bookshelf designed in the shape of a five-petaled flower, symbolizing that Uncle Ho's declaration of independence will forever resonate throughout the world.
Mr. Trieu Quoc Thanh, the school principal, shared: "We hope this space will become a place to nurture love for the country and gratitude towards President Ho Chi Minh in each generation of students."
"Following the direction of the Di An City Party Committee, Ly Thuong Kiet Primary School also strives to practically implement the study and emulation of Ho Chi Minh's ideology and ethics in the school through models, images, documentary films, books, and newspapers to create a sense of closeness. From there, teachers and staff can daily cultivate their ethics and conduct, and all students can experience, visit, and practice ethics in the best and most accessible way," Mr. Thanh added.
Learning from and following Uncle Ho's example since our school days.
To widely disseminate the noble values from the "Ho Chi Minh cultural space," Phu Hoa Primary School and Ly Thuong Kiet Primary School have created opportunities for all students to visit and learn meaningful historical lessons right in this space.
Through historical artifacts and stories about Uncle Ho, history lessons, which were once dry and uninteresting, become more lively and understandable than ever before. Students not only learn about Uncle Ho's life and great achievements but also deeply appreciate his humility and simplicity. These values gradually permeate their souls, contributing to the formation of generations of patriotic and grateful citizens.
Nguyen Thao Nguyen, a student from Phu Hoa 3 Primary School, and Vu Bao Ngoc, a student from Ly Thuong Kiet Primary School, shared: "I often read about Uncle Ho's life and revolution. I especially like how he traveled all over the world to learn about and help the country." "Uncle Ho lived a very cheerful life, loved his compatriots, loved children… he was a truly great person in the life of our nation. We will try our best to study hard and be well-behaved so as not to disappoint Uncle Ho, who went abroad to find a way to save the country so that we could have the life we have today."
The models of Phu Hoa 3 Primary School and Ly Thuong Kiet Primary School have been highly appreciated and honored by the Thu Dau Mot City Party Committee, the Di An City Party Committee, and the Department of Education and Training of Binh Duong province. The effective initiatives of the two schools have contributed to widely spreading the positive image of studying and following the ideology, ethics, and style of Ho Chi Minh.
To replicate these successful models, the Department of Education and Training of Binh Duong province has encouraged primary schools in the area to research and build Ho Chi Minh corners that are suitable to the specific conditions and characteristics of each school. It is expected that by the end of the 2024-2025 school year, all schools will have Ho Chi Minh corners, cultural spaces dedicated to Ho Chi Minh.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Tuyet, Head of the Preschool and Primary Education Department of the Binh Duong Provincial Department of Education and Training, said: "Building a cultural space dedicated to President Ho Chi Minh should not only focus on creating a small, dignified corner for competition, but also become a regular, creative activity closely linked to the educational activities of the school."
"In that space, instead of just displaying things for aesthetic purposes, the primary school requires that it be integrated with bookshelves, library reading activities, and storytelling about Uncle Ho, with content appropriate for their age. The goal is to instill in the children a love, interest, and desire to learn about Uncle Ho. Only then can we help them respect and admire Uncle Ho, so that when they grow up, they will know how to learn from and follow Ho Chi Minh's style and ethics," Ms. Tuyet shared.
It is clear that building "Ho Chi Minh cultural spaces" in primary schools in Binh Duong is a practical action to educate the younger generation about patriotic traditions. This is not just a small corner in the school, but also a small seed sown in the soul of each student. That seed will grow, blossom, and bear fruit, contributing to building a prosperous and civilized country, standing shoulder to shoulder with powerful nations, as Ho Chi Minh taught.
