According to an exclusive report from Sports Kyunghyang , multiple students have accused a male teacher at a prestigious arts high school in South Korea of sexual assault. The crimes took place over at least ten years, with at least five female students being victims of the abuse.
The art school in question is known for producing many top idols and young actors. According to Sports Kyunghyang , graduates from the school have gone on to debut in popular K-pop idol groups such as BTS, TWICE, NCT Dream, and ITZY. For this reason, it is nicknamed the “idol academy.” Unfortunately, the bad guys took advantage of their position and power in the school to abuse teenage girls.

Taking advantage of the teacher's name
B, a musical actress who studied at an arts high school, said that she was sexually harassed by teacher A at his home when she was 18 years old. B said that once she had a lesson until early morning at a gym near the school, A called her to his house, then touched her body, gave her alcohol and kissed her.
“My mother had many face-to-face consultations with the teacher and trusted him. That day, the teacher contacted my mother and asked her to let me rest before the performance. But then he gave me a sweet foreign wine, then suddenly kissed me on the lips, saying that he saw me as a woman and not a student. I tried to refuse the invitation by asking what he wanted to do, but he came closer and started touching my body. I was both shocked and scared. I screamed that this was not something a human would do. I ran into the guest room and cried all night,” said former student B.
A did not mention or apologize for what happened for several days after the incident. Meanwhile, B was diagnosed with panic disorder because she had previously trusted her teacher and was shocked by what had happened.
B explained that because A was in a position to decide on roles in artistic projects, she had no choice but to endure in order to graduate smoothly and enroll in university. “I felt like one of those helpless victims I saw in movies,” B confided.
C, another female student who had graduated from high school, was sexually abused by A in Japan. In 2019, C was asked to come to Japan to help prepare for a performance in Okinawa City. However, contrary to C's thoughts that many people would come there, in the end, it was only her and A.
“A invited me out for a drink during dinner. He said that the reason he came to Okinawa was not for work but for a vacation, and he called me because he was bored. I was shocked by that. I was also scared because my place was far from the city center. The only thought I had was to find a way to survive on my own. When I returned to Korea two days later, I received a long text message from A, in which he said, ‘I called you because I thought about you a lot. Don’t think too much about it. I’ll let you audition.’
He told me many times in school that if he were my age, he would marry me. I think he became an even more dangerous person when we met again after I graduated. He asked me questions about being a wife or having a family, but I did not answer those questions.
“I heard that among students and graduates, there are many people in worse situations than me. I want to let them know that silence is not the answer,” C said.
Sports Kyunghyang also interviewed several other victims. They described A as a cult leader. On the outside, many students thought of him as a good teacher who helped many students get into good universities and many male students liked him. However, female students had different feelings. A did not hesitate to hug and kiss the cheeks of the female students he liked.
When alone with female students, he would say “ I love you” to them. He would also make comments about their bodies, especially their chests, legs, and waists, such as “you don’t have a slim waist, but that’s okay because you have wide hips.”
Female student D said that A touched her body several times while studying together. They even started dating like normal couples, but a few months later, A took the initiative to break up.
E was also abused by A, but she did not dare to speak out because she was still a student. E asked Sports Kyunghyang not to publish any details related to her situation for fear of retaliation and bad reputation. Students at art high schools often get jobs based on their name and appearance, so many students who are studying or have graduated do not want to publicize negative events for fear of losing the opportunity to get a good job.
The perpetrator committed suicide, the consequences remain.
The entire situation involving A came to light after a student he had sexually assaulted reported it to the school. As the investigation progressed and narrowed down to A, he took his own life. The school later announced that A had died of a heart attack. Since A was no longer alive, the sexual assault case was closed. However, A’s victim has not been able to return to school due to severe psychological trauma.

On this issue, female student F shared her thoughts after experiencing 3 years of abuse by A: “After A's death, I saw something of the damage he caused to the female student he dated. I remember the constant taunts I had to endure for 3 years from A. It was dirty and disgusting. I couldn't eat anything, but still felt nauseous. That should never happen, a teacher using his position or power to harm a young student.”
A student studying at the school revealed that there were rumors that the number of victims increased every year during the time A worked at the school.
“The perpetrator’s death may have left the victims feeling empty. I wanted to help in any way I could, so I agreed to participate in this interview. I heard that there were three or four victims of A in each grade. This is the school I really wanted to attend. I think the truth should be revealed to protect the school’s reputation,” commented student G.
The school said it immediately took the necessary measures after being informed of what was happening. Specifically, the school issued an official statement to parents and students, and conducted seminars on behavior and ethics for both students and teachers. However, the school emphasized that it could not manage the personal affairs of staff and students outside of school hours.
Sports Kyunghyang tried to contact A's family several times, but received no response.
