Teachers hire others to replace them in class and are still approved by the school!

(NLDO) - A teacher in Gia Lai was assigned to teach classes but hired someone to teach instead and, strangely enough, the school board still agreed.

On December 7, a source from the Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper reported that the People's Committee of Chu Pah District, Gia Lai Province, has dealt with violations at Ia Mo Nong Primary and Secondary School. Notably, the school still paid salaries and allowances to teachers who did not teach in class but hired others to teach in their place.

Previously, the Chairman of the People's Committee of Chu Pah district established an inspection team to investigate information reflecting that Ia Mo Nong Primary and Secondary School had many violations.

At the meeting with the inspection team, Mr. Ro Cham Thom - a teacher at the school - stated that from September 2022 to December 2023, he did not teach but asked two people with pedagogical qualifications to teach the classes he was in charge of. In the 2022-2023 school year, he asked Ms. Bui Thi Huong to teach class 5B instead, and in the 2023-2024 school year, he asked Ms. Tran Thi Tam to teach class 1B instead.

Mr. Ro Cham Thom, a teacher at Ia Mo Nong Primary and Secondary School, hired someone to replace him in class but was still paid full benefits.

Every month, Mr. Thom asked Mr. Tran Van Tinh, the school principal, to pay the two people from 6.5 to 6.8 million VND. Mr. Thom also gave his ATM card and password to Mr. Tinh.

Mr. Thom also requested to check Mr. Tinh's payment to the two teachers, because he did not know how much the principal actually paid the two teachers.

However, during the working sessions on January 22, May 22 and May 29, Mr. Thom said that he was often sick and asked Mr. Tinh to introduce a substitute teacher. He met directly with Ms. Huong and Ms. Tam to negotiate the substitute teaching. In September 2022, Mr. Thom gave 6.5 million VND and asked Mr. Tinh to pay Ms. Tam. She received 6 million VND, Mr. Tinh returned 500,000 VND to Mr. Thom.

From October 2022 to May 2023, Mr. Thom directly paid Ms. Tam 6 million VND/month. In December 2023 alone, he gave her the card and password and asked Ms. Huong to withdraw all the money. Mr. Thom paid Ms. Huong 24 million VND for 3 months of teaching, and kept the remaining money.

According to Mr. Thom, during his leave of absence from teaching, he discussed with the principal, vice principal of the school and through the school board meeting. His wish was to retire with benefits.

The inspection team asked Mr. Thom to provide information and documents related to medical examination and treatment from September 2022 to December 2023, but he could not provide them because he "went to a shaman for treatment" and had no records!

Meanwhile, Ms. Tran Thi Tam and Ms. Bui Thi Huong said that Mr. Thom had contacted them and asked them to teach instead. They then contacted the school principal and received approval. During the time they taught, Mr. Thom was present in class, only absent on sick days (?).

Working with the inspection team, Mr. Tran Van Tinh presented that teachers reported that Mr. Thom's teaching quality did not meet standards. In addition, Mr. Thom is an ethnic minority and was a pioneer in the work of eliminating illiteracy. Therefore, the school wanted to extend his working time so that Mr. Thom could enjoy a one-time leave. The principal and the teachers agreed to let Mr. Thom hire a substitute teacher, and he went into the classroom to assist.

According to the accountant of Ia Mo Nong Primary and Secondary School, Mr. Thom did not submit a resignation letter, nor did he have any document showing his resignation. Therefore, the accountant still advised the unit head to pay Mr. Thom's allowance.

The inspection team of Chu Pah district concluded that the board of directors and teachers of Ia Mo Nong Primary and Secondary School agreed to let Mr. Ro Cham Thom hire a substitute teacher from September 2022 to December 2023 but still received benefits from the school, which is against regulations.
