Images of school violence always cause outrage.
School is a miniature society
I believe that school is a miniature society with hundreds, thousands of citizens with different personalities and emotions. The differences in family and social habits and daily relationships have created a variety of different behaviors. Among them, there are inevitably acts of school violence.
In a classroom, with dozens of students, this difference is already evident. It is also the key to different behaviors, including choosing "violence" to solve problems of some students who have not been educated in emotional management skills, love, tolerance and compassion.
Make an effort to listen to students
As a homeroom teacher, I always have the habit of approaching, being close to and regularly talking to the class committee to listen and grasp the situation of activities in the classroom. From there, I can detect early situations of conflicts between individuals that can easily lead to violent conflicts so that I can promptly intervene and prevent them.
In homeroom meetings, I often tell stories and bring up real-life situations, thereby conveying to students the skills to control their own emotions, tolerance and forgiveness to regulate negative emotions and always stay away from the phrase "school violence".
We need to educate students to "extinguish" small fires of anger with love and empathy from the heart, only then can we push back school violence. And the emotional connection, compassion and tolerance in their souls must be made lastingly based on the concept of "slow and steady wins the race".
Students of Thai Hung Primary School, District 8 during physical education class
I often advise students to choose healthy sports to practice physical fitness, choose arts, music, and intellectual games to enrich their souls, and not choose violent movies to watch because they are easy to "imitate" and tend to "follow suit".
People tend to believe what they see and this explains why movies have such a huge impact on us. Some violent content has a direct impact on young people’s behavior, while others affect their perception and are easily imitated, leading to negative consequences.
Of course, this is not a magic bullet to end school violence, but in my opinion, it also partly penetrates into the students' souls, helping them realize that violence cannot solve problems positively, violence is powerless in language and it is not suitable for intellectual and knowledgeable citizens, so that they do not seek this solution even once in their lives!
