Minister of Agriculture and Environment Do Duc Duy has just signed a Decision to recognize Prof. Dr. Nguyen Trung Viet, Vice Rector of Thuyloi University, to hold the position of Rector of the University for the term of the 4th School Council, term 2020 - 2025. This Decision takes effect from May 1, 2025.

Professor Nguyen Trung Viet, born in 1974, in Vinh Thanh commune, Yen Thanh district, Nghe An province. He is one of the leading experts in the field of hydraulic construction engineering in Vietnam.
Coming from a poor family, he overcame many difficulties to pursue his education. In 1993, he was admitted to the University of Water Resources, studying Hydraulic Construction Engineering.
During his studies, he achieved many outstanding achievements, including first prize in the 1996 Olympic Mechanics Competition on Strength of Materials and second prize in the 1997 Olympic Soil Mechanics Competition.
After graduating, he continued to complete his PhD program at Tohoku University, Japan - one of the top 7 multidisciplinary universities in this country.
After that, he returned to Vietnam and joined the teaching staff at the University of Water Resources since 2007. During his teaching and research, he was invited to present at many prestigious conferences in the world, and to evaluate doctoral theses at several prestigious universities such as: Delft University of Technology (Netherlands), Curtin University (Australia), Aix-Marseille University and Toulouse University (France).
He and his research team have won many domestic and international scientific research awards such as the award for highly applicable articles at the 19th National Conference on Hydromechanics in 2017, and the International Award for Excellence in Training and Research by Tohoku University, Japan in 2019.
He was recognized as Associate Professor in 2011 and Professor in 2018. During his career, Professor Nguyen Trung Viet held many important positions such as Secretary of the Council of Professors of Irrigation and Member of the State Council of Professors.
In 2014, he was invited by the Japan Foundation for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) to conduct research and collaborate at the University and was appointed as a member of the Executive Board of the International Association for Hydrological and Environmental Engineering Research in the Asia-Pacific Region (IAHR-APD), and a member of the Executive Board of the Asia-Pacific Association for Marine Engineering (APAC). Since 2019, he has been a member of the State Council of Professors in the field of Water Resources.
In particular, in 2022, Professor Nguyen Trung Viet was awarded the Outstanding International Cooperation Award by the Japan Society of Civil Engineers (JSCE). This is a major award given to researchers in Japan and the world who have made great contributions to the construction field in general.

With more than 20 years of experience in research and training, Professor Nguyen Trung Viet has made many important contributions to the irrigation industry. He is known as a "bridge" between Vietnam and Japan in the field of hydraulic engineering, especially through training and research cooperation programs with Tohoku University and the Japan Society of Civil Engineers (JSCE).
Under the leadership of Professor Nguyen Trung Viet, Thuyloi University expands international cooperation, especially with leading universities and research institutes in Japan.
He plays an important role in connecting scholarship and student exchange programs, creating opportunities for many Vietnamese students to study and research in Japan.
Professor Nguyen Trung Viet is also actively involved in developing new majors at Thuyloi University, in order to meet the needs of society and the development trend of science and technology. He has proposed and implemented majors such as: Robotics and intelligent control engineering, Artificial intelligence and data science, expanding learning and research opportunities for students in advanced fields.
Professor Nguyen Trung Viet was appointed as Principal of the University of Water Resources to replace his predecessor, Professor Trinh Minh Thu, who retired from May 1.
