Professor Nguyen Tien Thao is the new Director of the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education and Training.

Before becoming Director of the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education and Training, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Tien Thao was Deputy Director of the Institute of Digital Training and Testing, Vietnam National University, Hanoi.

Deputy Minister of Education and Training Hoang Minh Son acknowledged that Prof. Dr. Nguyen Tien Thao has many years of working at Hanoi National University, with a lot of experience in training, testing, and quality assessment.

However, becoming the Director of the Department of Higher Education will be a new, important and heavy responsibility for Mr. Nguyen Tien Thao. Especially, in the field of higher education, there is much to do; one of the things that must always be done is to build the revised Law on Higher Education.

The Deputy Minister hopes that the new Director of the Department of Higher Education will quickly get acquainted with the new job, "get to work" immediately to build a united team, promote democracy, and excellently complete the assigned tasks. At the same time, he requested that members of the Department of Higher Education and agencies and units in the Ministry of Education and Training will accompany and support Prof. Dr. Nguyen Tien Thao in his work, together to excellently complete the task.

Having worked in the university environment for many years, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Tien Thao acknowledged that in his new position, there will be new tasks to do, with heavy responsibilities. However, he promised to try his best to complete the assigned tasks. He affirmed that in all cases and circumstances, he will always put the goals and tasks assigned by the leaders of the Ministry of Education and Training above all, for the collective benefit and common development of the country's education and training career.

Prof. Dr. Nguyen Tien Thao was born in 1977, from Bac Ninh. He graduated with a bachelor's degree in Chemistry, majoring in Organic Chemistry in 1999 from the University of Science, Vietnam National University, Hanoi. In 2002, he received a master's degree in Chemistry from the University of Science, Vietnam National University, Hanoi.

He then completed his PhD in Chemical Engineering, specializing in Catalysis at Laval University, Canada in 2007. In the next phase, he continued his postdoctoral research at the Georgia Institute of Technology (GaTech), USA from 2008 to 2010. In 2015, he was recognized by the State Council of Professors as an associate professor, then recognized as a professor in 2019.

Prof. Dr. Nguyen Tien Thao was appointed as Director of the Department of Higher Education, replacing his predecessor, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thu Thuy, who was recently transferred and appointed to the position of Director of the Department of International Cooperation, Ministry of Education and Training.
