This year's Intellectual Property Day with the theme "Intellectual Property and Music: Feeling the Rhythm of Intellectual Property" aims to promote and introduce mechanisms and policies as well as raise awareness and sense of compliance with the law on copyright and related rights in the music field.

This is also an opportunity for exchange, connection, and cooperation between the business community and organizations and individuals operating in the music industry, to grasp information, update new trends, etc., and promote the development of cultural industries.

Talking about the meaning and message of this year's Intellectual Property Day, Ms. Pham Thi Kim Oanh - Deputy Director of the Vietnam Copyright Office said: "Music is extremely important as music copyright is the driving force for creativity and sustainable development. If we do a good job of copyright protection, it will encourage creativity, motivate musicians, artists, and investors to invest more in music products, thereby bringing enormous values.

I hope that we all join hands to have a music industry and cultural industry that enforces copyright well, encourages creativity and reaches out globally."

Ho Chi Minh City was chosen as the venue for the activities in response to World Intellectual Property Day this year. The choice of Ho Chi Minh City as the venue also has a special meaning – it coincides with the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day.

Also at the program, Mr. Nguyen Minh Nhut, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture and Sports of Ho Chi Minh City said: Intellectual property is one of the important contents in the city's cultural development strategy.

“As one of the major cultural and artistic centers of the country, Ho Chi Minh City is constantly recording outstanding achievements in the creative field through many typical programs and events.

However, besides positive results, there are still some limitations, such as violations of intellectual property rights and infringement of creativity of authors and related parties.

We are committed to strictly complying with the regulations of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, while respecting and promoting the values of creative labor achievements," Mr. Nhut shared.

In the context of the increasingly creative economy, raising awareness and enforcing copyright is becoming more urgent. Especially in the digital age, online platforms not only open up opportunities for public access but also pose difficult problems in the management and enforcement of intellectual property rights.

With efforts to integrate internationally, Vietnam is actively participating in trade agreements and cooperating with copyright protection organizations around the world to build an effective and transparent copyright management system and increasingly demonstrate its strong commitment to the international community in enforcing intellectual property rights, creating a premise for the music industry to develop sustainably.

Musician, Meritorious Artist Dinh Trung Can, General Director of the Vietnam Center for Music Copyright Protection, a co-organizer, said: “In Vietnam, there are currently five organizations for Collective Management of Copyright in the field of literature and art, of which the Vietnam Center for Music Copyright Protection (VCPMC) is the only organization authorized by the state to represent and protect the rights of musicians.

Currently, the Vietnam Center for Music Copyright Protection has signed bilateral cooperation agreements with collective rights organizations in 168 countries and territories.

The Vietnam Center for Music Copyright Protection not only focuses on reviewing to maximize revenue, but also has many measures to handle and minimize copyright infringement cases by technological measures or requesting civil administrative handling according to the provisions of law, even filing lawsuits in court to protect the rights and legitimate interests of authors - owners of works.

This is extremely important in the digital age, contributing to promoting the fair development of the music industry."

Musician Nguyen Van Chung, a member of the Vietnam Music Copyright Protection Center, said: “I have authorized the Vietnam Music Copyright Protection Center to exploit and collect fees for the entire work, and I am the first musician to have the Vietnam Music Copyright Protection Center represent me in successfully suing for international copyright and have been granted the official and legal copyright for the work: “Crying Moon”.

I think copyright protection is even more important in today's digital age, where all music products are digitized and fully exploited on cyberspace."

It can be affirmed that copyright is not only a barrier against infringement, but also a rhythm that helps artists continue to create. Protecting intellectual property in music is not only the right of artists but also the responsibility of the whole society. Respecting creative values is not only an ethical principle, but also a driving force for Vietnam to develop a strong cultural industry, reaching international standards.

On this occasion, the organizers also presented gifts to support musicians and artists in difficult circumstances, showing respect for the values of creative labor in the music field.
